The latest edition of the iconic #ANU #Logic #SummerSchool starts tomorrow! I'll be reprising last year's topic of 'Propositions and Types, Proofs and Programs'. Other lecturers include @michaeln and @ohad https://comp.anu.edu.au/lss/
This week I was delighted to present the paper "Right the docs: Characterising #voice #dataset #documentation practices" at the Australasian Language Technology Association 2023 Workshop #ALTA2023, joint work with my doctoral supervisor, Dr Elizabeth Williams.
The audience questions were insightful, and a big thank you to Dr Gabriela Ferraro for the lovely photo.
It was my first time at #ALTA2023, and it will be held in #Canberra at #ANU next year - a delightful and welcoming community. Thank you for the opportunity!

Last week, as part of my #PhD program at the #ANU School of #cybernetics, I gave my final presentation, which is a summary of my methods and #research findings. I covered my interview work, the #dataset documentation analysis work I've been doing and my analysis work around #accents in @mozilla's #CommonVoice platform.
There were some insightful and thought-provoking questions from my panel and audience members, and of course - so many ideas for future research inquiry!
A huge thanks to my panel, chaired so well by Professor Alexandra Zafiroglu, to Dr Elizabeth Williams, my meticulous, methodical and always-encouraging Primary Supervisor, and to my co-supervisors Dr Jofish Kaye and Dr Paul Wong 黃仲熙 for their deep expertise in #HCI and #data respectively.
Similarly, a huge thank you to my #PhD cohort - Charlotte Bradley, Tom Chan, Danny Bettay and Sam Backwell - as well as the other cohorts in the School - for your encouragement and intellectual journeying.

Smart water management employs information and communication #technology as a means for responding to fundamental water management challenges. Smart water management requires integration of a range of #systems (across technical, environmental, social, and beyond) in order to monitor, control and regulate water usage and quality.
We welcome manuscripts from a number of diverse fields, including #engineering, #economics, #humanities, #cybernetics, social sciences, modelling, political sciences, #history, and many more.
The current #deadline for abstracts via web portal is Monday 20 November, though this will be extended.

Tonight I went to a screening of Untold Herstory (流麻溝十五號) at ANU. The film tells the stories of female political prisoners on Green Island in Taiwan in the 1950s. Producer Pasuya Yao (姚文智) participated in a post-screening Q&A. He said although it was important to tell the story it was too late for transitional justice and not enough movies had been made about the White Terror period

Next was another segment of the #ANU College of #Law's excellent #parenting and #work in a post-COVID context event, with Marian Sawer, Lyndall Strazdins, and Anne Macduff. There's some impressive data brought to the discussion here, particularly Strazdins's fascinating data on the #gender differences in working hours and mental health correlates.
