From the last few days sequestering in the Sierras, I've been often #drawing primitive repeating shapes to compose some new ideas for bigger #AbstractArt projects when I get back to #DTSJ. So far it's been productive if a bit minimalist.

Here’s the wet cyanotype with the lemon slices and leaves. Love how the lemon was both translucent and a source of moisture and acid.

Along with the photochemicals I used water, lilac dye, salt, vinegar, paprika, curry powder and coffee grounds.

As described this is my wet cyanotype with the lemon slices and leaves on watercolour paper, 11” x 15”. Along with the photochemicals I used water, lilac dye, salt, vinegar, paprika, curry powder and coffee grounds. The five lemon slices are white and blue and the rest of the image is a mixture of deep blue-greens, white and rust.

This painting is being done in what I call my "old" style, or the one I used before developing natural process painting. It is very linear, using bold, mostly curving lines against a more solid background, which in this case is a wash of greys and black. The bold lines are simply brushed on with metallic gold acrylic paint, rather than being laid down in layers like a natural process painting would be, but many of the forms within can be said to be similar. Thank you for your interest in my work, and I hope I have done well in presenting it to you!

This work in progress detail image is definitely in the warm end of the color spectrum, which if you haven't seen it might be hard to conjure in your mind, but you can imagine it like this: color is part of a larger wavelength spectrum, which isn't about color, but about the size of the waves, and the distance between them. It sounds esoteric to refer to colors in terms of "vibration", but that's indeed what they are! As such, this painting can be said to have a decidedly "warm" vibration. But the color is just a dressing for what's really going on in this painting detail - which is the texture. Many organic-looking "plateaus" can be seen in the lower portion of the image, arching upwards like the crest of an ocean wave, until it spirals back onto itself. Above the arc of the spiral are large, flat areas that are periodically interrupted by what appear to be mountain ranges. The overall effect is one of dynamic motion, and awe at the complexity of organic form. Thank you for visiting the places I create, where all are welcome!

I love the deep, rich color palette in this geometric piece, which I titled "Obliquities." It is part of a loose series of square geometric works that I put together for a four-person exhibit, and it's one of my personal favorites. The Turkey Tail mushroom, also known as Trametes versicolor or Coriolus versicolor, grows on dead hardwood trees throughout the world.This particular dead tree was just loaded with these fungi that seem to grow in layers vertically up the tree and make a lovely nature abstract.

Neil Fujita was among the Japanese Americans forcibly detained during World War II, until he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the segregated 442nd Infantry Regiment.

I got some new yellow paint I wanted to play with so hit the studio yesterday afternoon. I wanted to produce something predominantly yellow, but, being me, I ended up adding other bright colours! Anyway, I took this photo this morning so it has been drying overnight. It actually looks darker to the eye than it does in this photo but it will be scanned accurately when it is dry and ready to be uploaded to my print stores. I am pleased with it!
