Any #BookRecommendations for me?

I haven't read a lot of #books in my life. It was always hard for me to get the motivation, but the last 4 years, because of my depression, it was often impossible.
But now I'm able to read again, and want to read up on some important issues.

Here are some of my favorite books I read so far:

📖 #Platonic by #MarisaGFranco.
It's a great book about the importance of #friendship and how to get and maintain one. It helped me learn a lot about myself and is a big part of how I started getting out of my depression.

📖 #Ace by #AngelaChen.
A book about #asexuality that everybody should read, not just ace people.

📖 "The time to act is now" (original title: #HandelnStattHoffen) by @carorackete
A moving book about #ClimateJustice and lots of related issues.

Right now I'm reading:

📖 "War das jetzt rassistisch? 22 Antirassismus-Tipps für den Alltag" written by the people behind the #BlackVoices referendum.
A book about #racism in Austria and Germany.

Some books I have at home, that are just waiting for me to read are:

I'd love to read other works like "Ace" but themed around other #queer identities.
Another issue that interest me is e.g. #ableism (especially, but not limited to psychological disability).
But feel free to also recommend great books on other issues.
I can only read German and English, so please keep that in mind.

Finally got around to reading Maia Kobabe's Genderqueer and it's fantastic. As a fellow #ace it was awesome to see this and the whole book was really awesome and had me crying at times. Definitely pick up a copy and check it out if you haven't - it's apparently the most banned book in the US right now

I just started reading "Ace: What asexuality reveals about desire, society and the meaning of sex" by Angela Chen and I'm already more confused than before.

Ever since I'm taking estrogen and antiandrogens I lack sex drive. I always said about myself that "I was always asexual in my head, but my body only turned asexual with the hormones". What I mean is that I never found sex particularly appealing in my head. I was always to some degree scared of it and disgusted of it. But I still wanted to have sex - especially with my first love.

Now the book tells me, that asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction (towards specific persons) not the lack of sex drive. I never thought about that before, but that makes sense to me.

But now I am thinking: I don't have sex drive, but do I have sexual attraction? I do find some people sexy - it's the first thing I notice about them actually and the first thing I judge about them.

Angela Chen describes sexual attraction as "sex drive towards someone" or "sex drive caused by someone", so by that definition you can't have sexual attraction without sex drive, right?

So what I experience, physical attraction - seeing someone, finding them appealing and wanting to be close to them - is not sexual attraction, because I don't want sex?

So I am asexual after all?

Maybe it'll all make more sense when I continue reading the book...

I based it on a snowman powered design I saw from Wattles.
I scaled it up and customized the kill system for music disc harvesting.

Did a little side project yesterday.
The #frogandchickensmp has a public iron farm, but having one in your base is just more convenient.
It also doubles as a mini trading hub for my fletcher, cleric and farmer.
It has an off switch, that puts the villagers at ease and enables more relaxed trading.

My friend just messaged me saying "so sweet so gay so ace" and I immediately felt like a fool for not spotting that.

I will be the first to admit that my personal experience is so far from asexuality that I am embarrassingly bad at spotting it. Also it doesn't help that there isn't much representation to begin with. So I'm very much no primed to spot it. But I really should get better at that.

Je suis #ACE et j'ai, depuis aussi loin que je me souvienne, été attirée par les personnalités dites "féminines", le plus souvent incarnées par les genres fortement orientés féminins avec, de temps à autre, un genre plus masculin se glissant de-ci de-là.

Autant, jusqu'à présent, j'arrivai à composer avec ça et regardais de tous les côtés du spectre du genre... autant ma peur des "mâles" et lm détestation du patriarcat me rattrapent de plus en plus au point où je crois qu'il est plus sage, et plus safe, pour moi d'occulter cette attirance minime que peuvent avoir certaines personnalités masculines sur moi.

Being :ms_aromantic_flag:​:ms_asexual_flag:​ #aroace and repulsed on both fronts is a very weird experience while being on #Mastodon. I could be scrolling through the federated timeline because the instance I'm on is pretty inactive and just... get flashed by fetish art or porn without warning, and when that happens, I'm automatically like, "Oh, c'mon man, TAG YOUR SH!T!" as my feelings of repulsion flares up.

Note: I have a lot of tags that filter out explicit content, so it's not me having too few filters.

It's most common with intro posts on specific #furry kink instances, likely because the newbies on there don't know that tagging is a super important part of Mastodon. Not just for discoverability, but also so people can filter out content they don't want to see (i.e. me not wanting to see fetish art or just lewd art of any kind for my own personal comfort) because obviously federated instances and whatnot.

I also see art from these instances that belong on those instances, but *don't* feel like explicit fetish art. I can look at it and go, "Huh. All right," and it just doesn't give the vibe of the artist intending to sexually stimulate their audience while I also see art that's *clearly* intended to be sexually-gratifying. Artist intent also matters here.

Like, not everything that *could* be lumped with a fetish is intended to be one. For example: a game like Bowsers Inside Story. That entire game is about the Bros. being inhaled by Bowser and going on wacky adventures in his body to save the world. Yeah, you could create an interpretation that IS sexual, but that clearly wasn't Alpha Dream's intent. That game is literally my second favorite game of all time, even if it could be linked to a fetish.

But yeah! That's the contrasting existence as an aroace person on Mastodon. It's weird, and I haven't seen a lot of other #aro and/or #ace people talk about it.

Also, obligatory I'm not bashing any artists, especially the new ones who don't know how Mastodon works. It would just be nice if these artists knew ahead of time about CW'ing or tagging their stuff correctly so they don't accidentally flash unsuspecting people with their lewd art if they're posting to the #federated timeline and not just their local one that might not require the use of tagging/CW'ing explicit material. This is ESPECIALLY important since there very well could be minors looking at that kind of stuff when they're not supposed to.

So yeah! Any lewd/fetish artists reading this, please do the sex-repulsed people and/or minors a favor, and please tag your 18+ art properly when you post on the #federated timeline. Not only does it help people find your art easier who want to see it, but it helps people like me filter it out so I'm not flashed! Thank you!

Also, for any other sex-repulsed people, please share your experiences on Mastodon! I'd like to see how frequent of an experience this is.

* #Ace and #Aro belong under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. They have not universally historically been included under the "A," but they have _always_ been there (sometimes under the A, sometimes under the B, but they've been there).

* #Queer is a reclaimed slur. As is "gay" and many of our other terms.

* Yes I am "not #gay as in happy but queer as in fuck you." (/magneto was right/insert the culturally appropriate variant here).
