"Not all art is political, but all politics is aesthetic; at their heart political ideologies, systems, and constitutions are aesthetic systems, multimedia artistic environments. The political “content” of an ideology can be understood in large measure actually to be—to be identical with—its formal and stylistic aspects. It’s not that a political ideology or movement gets tricked out in a manipulative set of symbols or design tropes; it’s that an ideology is an aesthetic system, and this is what moves or fails to move people, attracts their loyalty or repugnance, moves them to act or to apathy".

I think this is a very interesting point of view. Ellen Dissanayake has approached art, not as the creation of superb works by a limited number of people, but as human behaviour.
"It might be easier to establish the viability of the idea of art as an human behavior by considering it further as a human need (or as the satisfying of a human need). As individuals, many of us know in our bones that we need art, whatever that may mean. (It is often a unformulated, subterranean feeling or conviction.) We cannot imagine life without music, or poetry, or man-made beauty in one or more of its many forms. We thirst or hunger for these, and feel deprived when they are absent".

An interesting mix of buttons. They all have a (useful) function, but the #aesthetics of the original 1950s panel (the metal plate on top) is superior to the clutter that has been added over the last decades.
Neanderthals, our extinct cousins, may have had a sophisticated culture and sense of aesthetics, according to recent archaeological discoveries.
