Since @sotmeu@osm.town was recently held in #Antwerp 🇧🇪, I saw images of the cathedral. Is it just me or do asymmetric #gothic churches look more beautiful than symmetric counterparts like Notre-Dame in Paris or even asymmetric baroque churches? Apparently the cathedral *was* supposed to be symmetric but the second spire was left uncompleted.

The Zuidpark in Antwerp city really gives the neighbourhood some much needed green space. (Yes, there are aspects that could have been done better.) What a good vibe this place gives me every time I cycle past/over it.

That park (photo I took just now, in the previous post) unit recently was this large and ugly car park (photo attached, by Google).

Wonderful walk in the Rivierenhof Park in Antwerp. Definitely recommended, even/especially with children.

To me, Antwerpen Centraal is the best architected and most beautiful train station in Europe (disclaimer: I’m far from knowing every single one 😉)! They perfectly combined the old with the new, using warm materials and colours, connecting everything so that three levels of platforms are perfectly accessible.

In Germany, new stations tend to be cold and sterile, all glass and steel.

The original wall paintings from 1933 are being restored in the Sint-Anna pedestrian tunnel in Antwerp.

I really appreciate our road authority treating this historical infrastructure with such respect.

(This is the same tunnel which still has the functioning, authentic wooden escalators.)
