For all the talk in the #AppleEvent about the WATCH Ultra 2 being carbon-neutral and coming in a smaller box and all, it's surprising that the watch comes in a box that is much larger (and with much more packaging) than the box of the iPhone Pro Max.

Look, I know some people had issues with the Mother Nature skit in the #AppleEvent, but it let me do this.
Did some back-of-the-envelope math to see how much new renewable energy Apple needs to build for its goal to compensate all Apple Watch Series 9 charging and I came up with... less than one (1) modern offshore wind turbine.
I think their 2030 initiative is great, but I also think this specific pledge is getting some very outsized attention compared to its impact (especially relative to their other materials + supplier initiatives).

Seeing a lot of reporting that "the iPhone 15 has the same main camera as the 14 Pro, while the 15 Pro has a new bigger sensor". I got the same impression from the video, but I don't think it’s right.
The iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro seem to have the same, or at least spec-matching sensors: Both 48MP f/1.78 with “2.44 μm quad-pixel”.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 for sure has a brand new sensor that’s smaller than the 15 Pro, at f/1.6 and 2μm.
Hey is this the original iPhone we saw in Apple’s #keynote ? This was in the chip segment about the #iPhone15Pro around the 1:05:00 mark. #AppleEvent
⌚️ Anybody have any experience with Family Setup for Apple Watch? I'm thinking of repurposing my old Series 4 and adding cellular plan to it to give to my kids (with some appropriately-sized straps and bumpers).
I heard from @marcoarment that the experience of using Family Setup isn't as seamless as you might hope, so I'm wondering if things have gotten better or if anybody has had a different experience.

While there isn't anything too game changing on the 15, I think I'm going to upgrade from my 12 to the black Pro Max because of the camera and my eyes just aint what they used to be. Haven't had a phone that big since the Galaxy Note 20.
Oh, having USB-C will super nice too since EVERYTHING else I have uses that (to include other apple devices).

The thing that sticks with me the most about the "Mother Nature" skit at the #AppleEvent: I don't think in the end it was about environmental responsibility at all.
I think it was, instead, Apple flexing on other Hollywood studios.
The message was, "We're here to stay, and we can recruit Oscar winners even to shill for our corporate videos."
This was a big part of Tuesday’s #Appleevent — Got big praise as well as heaps of snark.

The one takeaway I got from the #AppleEvent was that the GPU component of the A17 has hardware accelerated ray tracing. To me, this made every other announcement pale in comparison. This potentially means an upcoming AppleTV that can handle AAA console-style games, and maybe an Apple Silicon iMac that could run Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen. Maybe even actual 3d acceleration support in Blender…
But I can’t see anyone else talking about it, at all!
Am I reading too much into this?
- I respect spatial video because by using two vertical cameras it forces people to turn the phone sideways to record it. That's incredible.
- oh dang... iCloud+ got more storage. I mean I guess that's good if you like that but holy wow I can't imagine how expensive those are going to be. But I know people who live on that stuff and they gotta be stoked.

Microsoft and Google are going down the ChatGPT route, highlighting AI.
In yesterday's #AppleEvent, Apple never once mentioned AI, but it was everywhere:
- Double-tap gesture to control the Apple Watch
- Improved, automated portrait mode
- Low light, other image capture improvements
Lots more of the same, just don't say AI!
Maybe this is a "turn down that noise you call music" thing from a person who's getting older than he cares to admit, but I thought the audio mix on the Wonderlust #AppleEvent was trash. They'd go from normal dialogue levels to BONE CRUSHING EDM INTERSTITIAL BLASTS WITH WAY TOO MUCH BASS then back to normal dialogue. It was very disruptive to my attention.
OTOH, thanks Apple Event DJ, for introducing me to Jackie Mendoza and Cub Sport.

All reports on the new iPhone Pro seem to be pointing to USB-C being the biggest feature, but not the fact that it can create 3D videos? To me that seems like quite a compelling reason to spend the extra earlier than later. Assuming it works as advertised. #appleevent

I'm genuinely torn despite previously assuming I'd get the iPhone 15 Pro for the “portrait" camera (trying to avoid having to bring my Fuji X-series and 35mm f/1.4 anywhere).
3x at f/2.8 seems less useful than the cropped 2x which is also available on the non-Pro, so why do I need a heavier Pro phone? Stuck at 12mp and ”1µm” total sensor size either way.
Macro is important to me though, as are night portraits, so the detailed comparison is very helpful.

Only Pro has "Macro photography”? I really thought that would have trickled down by now!
