The style is figurative rather than realistic. Three figures in head-coverings stand beneath the lower half of someone on a cross. The figure nearest to us has her hands over her eyes. In the background is a field of crosses. The colour is mostly blue, with some greens and lilacs.

Okay, I'll tell you what I think I see. It's night time - maybe just catching the end of dusk. There seems to be a house among trees on the edge of a cliff, with two mountaintops behind, and then the sky. I think there's a fullish moon. I'm not sure, because it's all quite dim-lit hazy dreamy. It could just as easily be a waterfall as a cliff-edge. Are they trees? Cos if that's a cat's face I can sort-of see in the gloom, maybe they're paws and claws? If that's a sky, it's blue above, fading down to yellow, and rusty red on the mountaintops. I don't know. I like it though. Embrace the ambiguity.

A dazzling (literally and metaphorically) painting of a lamp post at night. Well, I think it's a lamp post; it's quite hard to tell through the beautiful light it is casting around itself. The light rays are depicted through concentric circles of carefully mixed red, white, yellow and orange v-shapes, which fly to our eyes in loose columns. Around them is an irregular border of green-smudged black, suggesting that no other lights are nearby. Through the dazzle we can see a crescent sliver of yellow new moon.

Through the murk and gloom, an old-fashioned steam train rumbles on. In a moment it will pass closely by our left shoulder, but for now we see it driving on, smoke streaming back from its chimnety, two bright lights to the front, and warm lights along the carriage windows. You would want to be on one such train in your life.

Foremost is a woman with red eyes, in high-heels, a grey thigh-length skir and a teal blouse, her right leg raised halfway through a step, holding both hands with a short-haired figure in black trousers and a white vest. Behind them, a woman in red high-heels and a green dress is being held up (again, I think, halfway through a dance move) by a figure in black trousers and a grey shirt. She has her hands around his neck, and both legs around his waste. A woman next to them is dancing alone in a scarlet red dress, her left hand in the air and her black hair over her face. I reckon she's singing too. The style is realistic yet figurative - that is to say, it's like a picture of people dancing that captures their movement. If I tried to be this happy, I would make myself miserable. But I am glad they're enjoying themselves.

Hmm. Okay. Right. Yeah. Here goes... If I tell you this is a portrait of a very beautiful woman sitting with a white dove nestled in her arms, that would be accurate. And yet... There's a touch of the Modigliani about her. Just a touch. Elongated nose, tiny red mouth, elegantly arched eyebrows, and no eyes to see (though because they are closed and heavily kohled, rather just painted blank). She wears a top with plunging neckline, minty green in the main but with wide lines of cardinal red. Her hair is jet black, long, and just the right amount of messy to make a grown man sigh.We see her left hand supporting the dove, with a flash of gold on her ring finger. Now, here's the odd bit - have you ever fancied someone in a painting who has a decidedly bilious pallour? The woman's green, yet still as hot as all giddy up. God, I need a girlfriend.

Top right is a fat blue half-moon, looking down on two owls. Tawny? One on the left is larger, and bluish. One on the right is smaller, and peachy. They are both staring at us. The style is recognisable, but not at all realistic - like a woodblock print. I want this on my wall.

So, first, off, the whole thing is blue, but a silvery blue, like night-time. In the background is Venice's Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore, so that means the woman standing in front of us is thigh-deep in the lagoon where it bends round into the Giudecca Canal. She is completely nude, though we can't see her nipples or pudenda. (Maybe a slight hint of pubic hair?) Now it gets weird. This is not realism, it's... dunno, a bit cartoonish? Anyway, she is bending forward, with her hair a smooth whoosh backward down her back. Her face is flat, oval and masklike (think Salvador Dali, but not entirely), and in the water between her hands is a similar face/mask, staring straight up at the night sky. Floating off toward the campanile are four other oval faces/masks. It looks like a very bizarre baptismal scene. Either that or she's just drowned five people.

This painting is blue. Swirls, smears and shades of deep rich blue. There are other dots of colour, but mainly it's inky blue. If you glanced at it, you might think it abstract expressionism. But then you peer in, and the splodged orange rose at the top becomes... the moon? The sun? And the bits of colour around it become... stars? Chinese lanterns? And the smear of yellow snaking up the bottom left-hand corner becomes... a streetlight promenade? And then the angles next to it become... roofs? And the great swelling mass that forms most of the picture becomes a mighty river. If Van Gogh had painted this, it'd be on a million posters and would cost you nine figures in any currency.

Tuesday afternoon has always been my #drinking sweetspot. Just the committed, the passionate and the desperate. And always a quiet table to sit and read a #book at.

Corseted pink frock, embroidered top, big hat with a huge red feather and a red rose in her hair. She is sitting alone at a table, but slyly looking at her from behind is a rogueish-looking cove with a pencil moustache, a top hat and a slim panatella cigar. Next to her is a top-hatted old gent with a walrus white moustache, who appears to have dozed off while leaning on his cane. In the background are a couple in similar outfits to those previously described. This is not how my local pub looked on a Friday night, I can tell you that much.

As per title, really. Two low residences form a sort of courtyard, with four trees across the front of the scene. The one on the left looks like an ash/elm sort of thing, the two tall ones in the middle are larchy, and the one on the left is like a weeping willow that's just had some unexpected good news.(I am absolutely incapable of remembering tree species names. I have tried. Can't do it. Sorry.) The style is reasonably realistic, but not photorealistic. There is an orange light on in one window, but that is the only indication of human presence. The moon drifts silver through the clouds, giving the greenery below a tinge of sage. This is the sort of night when I go outside to be quietly alone.
