This is an earlier work in an informal series I did using ovals and jewel-like tones with lots of shading and iridescent color shifting. When I reached my "eureka" moment (the piece was finished), it reminded me somewhat of the Venus of Willendorf, the Upper Paleolithic female figurine found in 1908 at Willendorf, Austria. "Dinosaurs": Based on a photo I took some years ago in Manhattan. The two shipping cranes looming above the water reminded me so much of a pair of lumbering dinosaurs staring out over the waves, and I felt the ultramarine and electric blues gave it a strong graphic flair. Yellow or variations thereof shows up in my art sometimes--it's maybe tertiary or even quaternary in terms of what I turn to and use most.
