I'm not a believer, but the original, fundamental, #socialist #Christian message is pretty groovy.

What bishops, cardinals and popes have done with Christianity is disgusting. I hope there is a hell where they spend eternity on their knees while Christ stares right into their eyes from his cross.

Sculpted in brown metal, mounted to a right-angle of wood. On the ground kneels a bishop, leaning back slightly. On the wall is Christ, nailed to the wall with his hands turned around, such that his arms are straight and his head is thrust forward. He is thus staring the bishop right in the eyes from close distance.

A little dog! With whirring legs! It's a sausage dog, black with a but of brown on the face, out for a walk with its person. Its little tail is wagging like mad, and its legs are almost a blur. Its ears are flopping around, and it looks happy. The pavement is just a blur, and of the human we see just the swishing bottom of a dress. All is movement.

A neat drawing of a fully nude woman, but just slightly not realistic in form. Just. Also, here skin is grey-green-blue She is curvy, but not obese. Her short, centre-parted hair is brick red, and her nipples are a similar colour. As is the elegant bird flying over her right shoulder. She is lying on her right, but propped up on her right elbow. Here eyes are cast down, as if in sadness.

We look down on a beach, as if viewing it through binoculars from a clifftop. Little waves wash in at the water's edge, glinting white in the bright sun. A couple walk along, hand-in-hand, carrying their shoes, casting their shadow behind them on the beach. It is all a little blurred and dreamlike. I can only sigh. Sigh.

A stylised grey, black and white cat with a massive bum, a tiny head, huge eyes, a flat stomach and a curled tail. It is spotty all over, except on its tail and hind legs, where the spots form hoops. It's front paws are neatly together, but it is stepping forward with its right hind leg. It has turned its head to look at us. This is a mischievous devil of a cat, and it is up to something. I love it.

A man stands behind a slightly shorter woman, both of them raising both hands above their head. They are dancing, and they appear very happy in doing so. He wears black trousers and a very big shirt with spots on, showing a bit of midriff. She has an emerald green outfit with big white spots, a scarlet read scarf around her head, big hoop earrings and a couple of yellow flowers in her hair. The style is quite realistic, and I wish I looked as good as this when I danced. (That's partly why I don't dance.)

If I could paint like this, I would scrawl my name, date of birth and social security number all over it so nobody could describe it as 'artist unknown'.

(As I was light-heartedly typing that, I realised it's not true. I do not wish to be perceived in life or remembered in death.)

Against a lusciously dark background of greens (emerald, bottle and British racing), two rather wobbly looking swans glide toward us. They are undeniably swans, but the depiction is just messy enough that I wouldn't want to say for sure if they're Bewick, mute or whooper. Or maybe they're swans from another continent, which is why I don't recognise them? Anyway the one in front is pressing towards us with curiosity, while the one behind is dawdling, with its neck arching over so that it can look down at the water... maybe to adore its own reflection? The green water is rippled, but we can still see the roughed reflection of the birds. The water and background have been messily drawn, but nicely so, and we can see in the top left the trunks of some silver birches. It's a belter of picture, this one. Really it is.

On a solid, sandy-coloured wooden beam sit two beautiful barn owls, side-by-side. The one on the left has its back to us, but has twisted its neck around to its left. The one on the right is facing us, but is looking at the same thing as the other one. Probably a rustling mouse in the corner of the barn. Both have all the lovely plumage of the adult barn owl, but I suspect these are recently fledged juveniles that are not yet ready for full-time life in the outside world. They are painted in a very realistic manner, but with a slight tinge of cartoon around the face.

Side-on, we see two bodies stand face-to-face, nude, in full contact with each other, so we don't see any of their fun bits. They are framed from shoulder to upper thigh, and both have their arms raised, so we can't see their heads or faces. The figure on the right looks like a man, but the one on the left is more ambiguous. They are both grey, but with barely discernible discolouration that looks like bruising, especially where their genital areas are pressed against each other. Under the left-hand figure's armpit are what may just be abstract markings, but they also look a little like a woman's left eye and strands of fringe hair.

A woman holding a child, who in turn holds an apple. They have haloes, so I suppose it's meant to be Mary and the baby Jesus? Ignore that nonsense. This is just a beautiful, delicate and elegant painting of a mother and child. She has dark hair pinned behind her ears, narrow eyes, a long thing nose and a small mouth. She is looking affectionately down at the child, whose head appears to have been closely shorn apart from a square at the front. The child has a rather stern look on its face, and is wearing white, while the mother has a diaphanous head-covering, a grey top and a pale green shawl. There is some writing in the top corner, but it is in a script I can't decipher.

Drawn in a slightly cartoonish style, a group of blokes with topcoats over their (rather old-fashioned) football kit stand on a train-station platform waiting for the train home. They don't look cock-a-hoop. I imagine they conceded a late goal that has ruined their weekend.

A print depicting a London tube station. It is highly stylised, with the platform curving around to the right, and the red train with it. The train (which is either just arriving or just leaving) looks full of people sitting down, and there is only one person on the platform (who may be the platform manager). The platform is decorated in art-deco patterns of green and yellow, with some illegible arrivals boards hung overhead. At the centre of the painting is the black hole of the tunnel, and to the right is the platform exit. It is all clean, uncrowded and stylish. If only all public-transport journeys were like this!

In what is often snobbishly called the 'naive' style, we have a big reddish-brown feathery eagle swooping above a pastoral scene, with someone sitting outside their watermill house, busy with some handiwork. Someone else has just turned up on a cart drawn by two horses. The trees are leaved with bubbles for foliage. It is hard not to smile.

This is abstract. If it looks like anything, it's 8 cotton buds placed in parallel across the canvas, with the bottom bit of cotton lime green and the upper bit plum red. But then again, it doesn't look exactly like cottonbuds. I struggle to work out what artists want to convey through abstract art, or how I'm meant to think/react. So all I can say is that I like it, and that if I stare at it long enough the lines and fluff start to move.

So, first thing's first - that cardigan is NOT turquoise. It's battleship grey, with a hint of blue. Anyway. This a figure reclining on a bed with their hands behind their head, which is propped up on a big fluffy cushion. Their skirt is pleated and black. Their hair is very short, and black. The depiction style is angular, and though there are few curves to be seen it's somehow relaxed, not harsh and hard.

Men, women and children on a very colourful (and hot-looking) beach, with the sun glinting off the sea between us and an island with a church on its hilltop. Everyone is in swimwear, so you'd imagine it was warm in the southwest of England that day. They don't seem to be playing - just standing and looking. The sky is red and gold, so maybe they feel that peculiar melancholy you only get at sunset in the summer holidays? Or maybe that's just me? Dunno. Anyway, the painter has used long, broad, rough brushstrokes to depict the world, but has taken a little bit more care with the people.

The farthest figure has masses of long black hair, a beautiful face and a fine figure. She is hawt. The nearest figure is wearing a traditional male costume of tight trousers, jacket and black hat, but there's something quite feminine about the bum. I think I need a girlfriend.

A river runs away from us in rippling blue. We are looking along the river from its middle, with yellow and orange reedbeds at either side and green trees ahead. It looks like we are moving rapidly towards an island, a sandbar, or maybe a riverbend. Though the painting is quite abstract, so maybe I'm imagining all that.
