There's not a lot of coverage of this. The High Court ruling that the government can't detain people indefinitely has been on the cards for years. Something for Labor to take to the next election. Truly universal health care.
"The Medicare rebates will have to be doubled to make general practice sustainable. Universal dental care will cost a lot, but it will be popular."
"... take the stick to private health insurance by removing the rebate."
"The tax penalty for not having private health insurance should also be removed."
"The Medicare rebate should not automatically apply to every specialist procedure. It should be conditional on the specialist charging a reasonable fee. The more a specialist charges above the standard Medicare rebate, the lower the rebate should become, until it disappears."
This is creepy, throwing people into jail indefinitely on the basis they might commit a crime someday. That's imprisoning people for thought-crimes.

Warning: Bernard Keane article quoted / linked.
As you probably know, there's no end of obsessive genocide denying posters (or bots) here.
They target repeatedly any posters who support Palestinian rights.
Their aim is to spread the big lies on which fascism depends.
For what it's worth, I report them.
What an entertaining and (weeps) accurate article about the current Australian government...
"Their radical reconfiguration of the ALP did away with the light and the pesky hill altogether, and replaced them with a low-sensory plain of nothingness. Atop that dimly lit plain, a 'small target' can look like a mountain, and the enactment of your opponent’s deeply unpopular tax reforms can look like integrity. "

Very disappointed with abc.net.au its televised and radio news outlets and its faux outrage at the release of illegally detained asylum seekers.
Jumping on the xenophobic and racist tropes coming from the Liberal Party and others.
Completely misrepresenting the risk to the community and ignoring the fact that recidivism of Australian citizens released from gaol is 60%.
I wonder if the attitude of the reactionary new NZ government is a repercussion of the Voice referendum loss here. Has perhaps emboldened those wanting to ignore First Nations people.

He should be condemned. In fact he is arguably in contempt of the High Court and should answer for that.

"Japan was not bitten by the neoliberal mosquito that infected most other Western countries in the 1990s, because it had a property bubble in the late 1980s, and then a devastating bust in 1990, so that free markets got a bad name in Japan, and economic orthodoxy was defenestrated."

What about the Montreal Protocol (Ozone Crisis)?
What about it.
It’s been written as an ‘lesson’ on how Climate action is possible. It’s not wrong.
But very few in media who write about how it was also a lesson for Fossil Fuel Companies and Spin Doctors on how to lobby politicians, or how it fuelled unjustified optimism leading up to each Climate conference, from Kyoto to Paris.
It helped fuel the ‘She’ll be right’ moment in public and political sentiment, despite no tangible implementation of monitoring progress.
There is no more slack for misplaced optimism.
We burnt through the slack for procrastination over the last three decades.
We only have time for absolute urgency to minimise warming within 1.5°C, which is predicted to be reached by 2027.

My advice to Gen Y and Z,
as an older Millenial who has followed Politics, Environmental issues and Climate Change over the past near 20-years.
Don’t be optimistic. Keep up the protest. Keep up the rage.
Our mistake was trusting politicians without accountability, and believing that science alone was enough to turn the tide.
Lobbyists for national and multinationals, only interested in self-protectionism, were louder.
Especially not optimistic, considering Bowen’s past positions on Climate Change and climate action over the past 10-years,
… but also more recently, the details he’s not telling is another part that leads to the uneasiness.

It's certainly a very timid government, and that could be its undoing. Should be making bold changes - and selling them.
"... it believes its reforms so far are large. Which points us to the second potential problem: the possibility that the government is simply wrong about the scale of the changes it is making, deluding itself that they are proportionate to the problems facing Australia."
Labor’s ‘Albanese experiment’ faces its moment of reckoning
Like it or lump it, the only long term organised possible opposition to the neoliberal fascist Duopoly in Australia is The Greens.
You may or may not like it, but if you want to rid Australia of the heinous fascist duopoly supporting, lick spittling, the oligarchs who are oligarchs entirely because the government aided them to steal the wealth that you created with your labour, then there it is. Why do protests keep happening at the Australian-US Defence facility Pine Gap near Alice Springs?
I don't know how many facilities there are around the world like Pine Gap, but I'd hazard a guess they were all on the list of pre-emptive strikes for any global power aspirants.
@whereisk the ALLNP flag logo is an image I made years ago for a post on the socials about how since federation the Australian government has basically been passed between these two parties and how they seem so relaxed and blasé when in opposition, with the full assumption that it’s only between them and they’ll be in power next election, or the one after. I’m tired of the two party system (2.5 party system if you count The Nationals), and how both sides do everything they can to maintain the illusion that there’s only two choices. This video rang true with me in that note, which is why I dug up the graphic.

So… NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee denounced the protesters as “extremists”.
He's got it wrong. I'd say the extremists are those who insist they be allowed to continue to sell coal, oil and gas so it can be burnt, polluting the atmosphere, destroying earth's life support systems in the process.
