There's not a lot of coverage of this. The High Court ruling that the government can't detain people indefinitely has been on the cards for years. Peter Dutton received documents in relation to NZYQ & to M47 in 2018. More going on here than they are telling us. #auspol https://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/expremiers-billionaires-plead-for-tolerance-and-end-to-antisemitism-in-massive-open-letter/news-story/266fb84c4c569317e8a6f090ad9a81d1

Dutton received detainee documents in 2018, minister claims

Peter Dutton received key documents relating to the detainee high court saga while he was home affairs minister, Labor has claimed.

Immigration Minister Andrew Giles made the claim in a letter tabled to the Senate on Monday afternoon as part of a Coalition request to produce documents prepared in NZYQ case and in the case of Plaintiff M47.

Liberal senator James Paterson had requested “any emails, file notes, briefing materials and other written correspondence” provided to the Home Affairs or Immigration Minister or Attorney-General be tabled to the Senate.

According to Mr Giles, the material was received by Mr Dutton in 2018 when he was home affairs minister.

“Documents falling within the scope of the order include material that was provided to the then-Minister for Home Affairs in 2018 relating to the ‘possibility of the High Court making a decision … that the ongoing detention of [Plaintiff M47] was beyond the legislative power of the Commonwealth,’” he wrote.

Mr Giles said the request for documents had included “material of a similar nature” provided to the government in 2023 in relation to the NZYQ case but he declined to release this material.

“On behalf of the government, I am claiming public interest immunity in relation to the documents sought under this order,” Mr Giles said.

Something for Labor to take to the next election. Truly universal health care.

"The Medicare rebates will have to be doubled to make general practice sustainable. Universal dental care will cost a lot, but it will be popular."

"... take the stick to private health insurance by removing the rebate."

"The tax penalty for not having private health insurance should also be removed."

"The Medicare rebate should not automatically apply to every specialist procedure. It should be conditional on the specialist charging a reasonable fee. The more a specialist charges above the standard Medicare rebate, the lower the rebate should become, until it disappears."

But surely many of the women and mothers who were (and remain) part of #PeterDuttonsRefugees would have been exploited in a nasty part of the #SexIndustry - those very vulnerable women.

And Peter went along with demonising the unemployed - who include women and the parents of children.
This demonising was the base of #RoboDebt - doubtless deaths of women and kids' parents resulted.

What about the Montreal Protocol (Ozone Crisis)?

What about it.

It’s been written as an ‘lesson’ on how Climate action is possible. It’s not wrong.
But very few in media who write about how it was also a lesson for Fossil Fuel Companies and Spin Doctors on how to lobby politicians, or how it fuelled unjustified optimism leading up to each Climate conference, from Kyoto to Paris.

It helped fuel the ‘She’ll be right’ moment in public and political sentiment, despite no tangible implementation of monitoring progress.

There is no more slack for misplaced optimism.
We burnt through the slack for procrastination over the last three decades.
We only have time for absolute urgency to minimise warming within 1.5°C, which is predicted to be reached by 2027.

My advice to Gen Y and Z,

as an older Millenial who has followed Politics, Environmental issues and Climate Change over the past near 20-years.
Don’t be optimistic. Keep up the protest. Keep up the rage.

Our mistake was trusting politicians without accountability, and believing that science alone was enough to turn the tide.

Lobbyists for national and multinationals, only interested in self-protectionism, were louder.

You need to be even louder.
