It was deemed extinct. But now pentl'ach has been declared a living language in #bc

“The reclassification of pentl'ach and its addition to B.C.'s official list of #indigenous languages, was the result of linguistic and admin work by the #Qualicum First Nation, with support from the First Peoples' Cultural Council.”

A local First Nations language that was almost gone, has been recovered after some amazing and dedicated work. Welcome back pentl'ach (pronounced "PUNT-lutch”)

The most common reference English speakers in this area will have to the language is the name of the "Puntledge" river near Courtenay, BC.

Sick of hearing our current #governments blame almost everything on past governments. They've had years to change old #StatusQuo but didn't do it. We are living under freaking #neoliberalism in #BC & #Canada now. I fucking hate it.

These failures in government can keep blaming past governments or step the heck up harder & not act like past govt leaders here(and elsewhere!) or learn to #STFU if they're treating #citizens like we don't matter - just like past govts.

Not a seaweed, eelgrass is a flowering plant. It has roots and requires sunlight to grow, which is why it regularly appears close to shore. Its roots sequester carbon and mitigate sediment erosion, which protects the shoreline in the event of a storm.

Eelgrass accounts for up to 18 per cent of carbon sucked up into world oceans. They absorb carbon about 35 per cent faster than tropical forests.

I just tried and failed to get my 8yo kid into a doctor's office. And I want to talk about that.

I live in #Vancouver, #BC. #Canada. Many in the US see this as some kind of promised land, because there's a public health system. But it doesn't work.

It CAN work. I've also lived in Strasbourg, France. And in comparison, there my kid would have seen a pediatrician within hours of a call.

This failure is a POLICY CHOICE by authorities. Not some impossible social hurdle.

I want my real life community in #PortAlberni and #VancouverIsland and #BC to discover this place. I want it to be the place for immediate news to appear on, for government orgs to post updates, for people to rely on.
