What was it like to bake a #Victorian era dessert in Canada's Kitchener-Waterloo region during the early 1900s? 🤔
This video from Parcs #Canada takes us on a journey back in time, featuring the making of Cottage Pudding and Lemon #sauce. The #recipe is from The Berlin Cook Book, a Canadian #book published in 1906. 🇨🇦🍋

I made my apple cake recipe again since my father is staying with us this week and I wanted him to try it.
8yo (finishing his first piece): Is there any cake left?
Me: Yes but everyone’s had enough.
My father: Not everyone.
So I’d say it was a hit again :)

@vee My go-to cookies are "Brown Butter Sugar cookies" from Cook's Illustrated (via a blog so you don't need a subscription): https://noshwithme.com/2009/01/brown-sugar-cookies/
Not quite a cookie, but these come together really easily if you want something chocolatier:

Trying to catch up a bit on my pies post-health-stuff, and this is my first test for August - G&T jelly-shot pie.
It's not there (floppy base, floating fruit) but it actually tastes quite good and, more importantly, I find its transparent wobbliness fucking hilarious.
Does anybody have a good cookie recipe that doesn't involve a hand/stand mixer? I'm not willing to invest in a mixer but homemade cookies would make Matt so happy...
Plan within the next hour. Reconstitute the freeze-dried sourdough starter. It’s the right time of year.
Hi #SmallBatchBakeAlong peeps! It's almost time for the next round, so I wanted to check in first.
That is, are folks up for another round right now? Because I should probably start it this coming Sunday, October 1st, but I could also see delaying a week. And since there weren't a lot of folks who joined in last round, I'm concerned that folks might be feeling swamped right now and I don't want to add to that feeling.
That being said the theme this round will be Face Your Baking Fears, and holy crud I have found some bakes. So far I'm looking into:
- Puff pastry ('rough puff' version)
- Cream puffs
- Chocolate souffle
- Crepe cake
But is that too scary sounding even for the season? (Like I could add in something simple and fun as a palate cleanser? I've been tempted to add in a dirt cake!) I'd love to hear your thoughts!
#baking query -
I’m making some cupcakes/fairy cakes tonight - any hints for using an air fryer, or should I stick with my slow, uncontrollable oven?
And thick icing for decorating? What is it I’m looking for - not butter icing…
I made challah for the first time in a long time last week and I am afraid my skills deteriorated. The lopsided round one was for Rosh Hashanah, plus a two strand to the left and a regular three strand to the right. I even forgot to put poppy seed on them! #Challah #Jewish #Mazeldon #Food #Baking #Vegan #Bread
The absolutely lovely Marlene Epp stopped by this morning so we could talk about food, food culture, restaurants and her new book (article forthcoming!)
I baked Peabody's Cranberry-Lemon-Poppyseed loaf. Yes, I'm bad at cranberry distribution, but it's a tasty cake :)
And yes, all those flaggies are the notes I made as I read the book.
Good morning I’m posting a phone shot today. Cromarty from the North Sutor, replete with rigs and haar.

New learning project: #Sourdough. I'm about four years late to the party, but I don't think it's too late to learn!
I'll be making my own starter from #Einkorn flour, starting today, God willing. It's the perfect temperature in my apartment to create a new starter from scratch.

My mom requested chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. After consulting the Cookie Companion I made these. They spread quite a bit, but they are chewy and quite tasty. I might give this recipe another shot. It had so many ingredients though. I feel like you could achieve the same thing with fewer ingredients.
My cake is not as beautiful as the other cakes posted – but I am really proud of it. This was my first try of a three-layered cake https://www.diningandcooking.com/913562/my-cake-is-not-as-beautiful-as-the-other-cakes-posted-but-i-am-really-proud-of-it-this-was-my-first-try-of-a-three-layered-cake/
I got a new @anovaculinary precision oven, and my first trial was a Tuscan bread baguette. I am amazed at the difference steam injection makes, the crust was by far the best I’ve ever had out of a home bake - thick and chewy and crackly and wonderful. And my baguette pan fits in the APO! 20 mins at 425F with the rear element with 100% steam followed by about 20-30 mins with the top and bottom elements with no steam to brown. #cooking #baking #anovapreci...
