The only stamp from the 1950 pictorial definitive set that I have is the 12 cents Flying Fish. One of the oddest looking stamps ever...

Tomorrow, I'll share a few stamps from a similar set with portraits of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The last stamps I have to share from the 1938-1947 colonial seal set are two color varieties of the 1 shilling value. The perforations of both measure 13 1/2 x 13.

- Scott # 200 brown olive, with partial "Air Mail" cancel
- Scott # 200a olive green, used with a faint cancellation.

1938 Barbados postage stamp featuring the colonial seal with King George VI as Neptune in a chariot-boat pulled by sea horses. Engraved image, printed in brown olive. Acanthus leaf ornaments decorate the four corners of the stamp. The denomination, 1/-, is enclosed in oval tablets to the bottom left and right.

A pennant with the Latin motto, "et penitus toto regnantes orbe britannos" ("…and Britain rules the whole world") is at the top of the seal vignette. Between the denomination tablets reads, "Barbados."

#StampCollecting In 1920 #Barbados celebrated the victory of the Allies in WWI. Two low values from a set of 12.

#StampCollecting #Barbados stamps, from 1916, the one penny carmine colonial seal definitive stamp updated: King George V is driving the seahorse chariot (with paddle wheels?)

Line engraved, in a larger size than the typographed stamps I've been sharing so far.

- the stamp: with added Latin motto, "Et penitus toto regnantes orbe britannos" ("…and Britain rules the whole world")
- closeup view of George V as Neptune
- black & white circular date stamp from 1918 (or maybe 1919)

1916 Barbados one penny postage stamp, line engraved in bank note style in red. The circular frame shows the colonial seal of Barbados, with George V driving a chariot pulled by a pair of "sea horses." Latin motto as described on a pennant at the top of the vignette. Continuing in chronological order sharing #Barbados stamps, from 1912, the one penny carmine George V definitive stamp featuring the colonial seal with the addition of (presumably) a stalk of sugar cane added. Queen Victoria is still driving the seahorse chariot.

Letterpress or "typographed" printing.

- the stamp
- the circular date stamp showing a May, 1914 date. (image inverted to make it easier to read)

1912 carmine-colored postage stamp from Barbados, with an oval portrait of George V topped with a crown in the upper left.

The main vignette of the stamp features a simplified version of the colonial seal of Barbados, with Queen Victoria with Neptune's trident riding in a seahorse chariot. To the upper right and partially visible behind the portrait to upper left, bundles of (sugar cane?) stalks. In the background, rays radiate up from behind the queen to fill the sky.

The denomination, "1d" (one penny) is in the lower left in a shield-like shape, above a rectangular tablet crossing the bottom of the stamp. The tablet reads, "Barbados" with ornamental flowers to the right and left. Small quarter circle ornaments are at the upper right and left corners of the stamp.
Black and white portion of the circular date stamp. Some of the letters of "Barbados" are visible at the top. The partial date reads, "_0.MY.14.9 00AM." At the bottom of the cancel, indistinct initials are visible - perhaps "G. P. O." for "General Post Office."

Incoming mail has been sadly bereft of stamps this week, so nothing new to share.

I've been sorting some #Barbados stamps, and a few needed soaking, so I'll share a few of these this week.

First up, this from 1882, the one penny Queen Victoria definitive. Printed by what the Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue calls "typography" (better known as letterpress) in the shade of red known as "carmine rose."

#StampCollecting

Barbados postage stamp featuring a profile portrait of Queen Victoria facing left. Rectangular tablets at the top and bottom of the stamp read, "Barbados" and "one penny." Arabesque ornaments fill the four corners surrounding the circular portrait vignette in the center of the stamp. A heavy dashed oval postmark in black ink covers much of the stamp.

Well done #barbados as the people of #grenada found. Being a member of the British Commonwealth and having the Queen as head of state. Gives no protection against the #usa illegal invasion to bring about regime change. https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/w/barbados-to-formally-drop-british-monarch-as-its-head-of-state

Good for them, hope the rest follow suit. Now what about #Canada and #Australia? Then of course there’s #Britain too.

"Comorians were skilled at developing their networks not only within the wider region but, following the European arrival in the Indian Ocean in the sixteenth century, with the wider world. Far from being forgotten outposts of a foreign colonial power, in centuries past the #Comoros were well known to Arab navigators, English civil servants and American whalers while Comorians themselves travelled to places as far afield as #Barbados, Siberia, London and Penang.

Been wondering who these fuckers were. #Barbados #Bajan #slavery #Caribbean @OCRbot

screenshot of google search results listing numerous people bearing the family name "brathwaite" in the UCL Legacies of Slave Ownership database. There are many, many Black people with the name "brathwaite" or "braithwaite"; this screenshot explains why. a transcript of the screenshot is attached in the replies to this post.

#Dominica was the only UK #Caribbean territory to be a republic on independence, although Trinidad later followed and now #Barbados also.

Some recent purchases. I've tried the Mezan XO before, & it makes a mean daiquiri (Jamaican #rum is awesome for mixing), but the Doorly's 8-year & #Foursquare Premise were new to me.

This Doorly's is an excellent entry-level sipper, but not as good as their 12-year. It's good in an Old Fashioned, but makes Coke taste bitter/astringent. The Premise is fine...but only after a couple drops of water. It sort of tastes like baking spices.

#Doorlys #Jamaica #Barbados

3 bottles of rum: Foursquare Premise, Mezan XO, & Doorly's 8-year.
Label for Foursquare Premise rum. Aged 10 years, 46% ABV.
