My ride comes in an hour and a half; I'm ready to go now. 🤣 It was like this in Frankfurt, too, rarin' to go entirely too early for the night's festivities.
My ciggy case is loaded. A sweat towel (I know what happens once I get going) is in the gig bag, along with strap, cable, etc. Even some picks for those rare occasions when my nails just won't do.

What can I say? I get excited at the prospect of struttin' my stuff, and going boom boom.

Open jam sessions.
Bassists are always in demand, almost revered; you WILL get stage time. Regardless of your skill/experience.
No one is expecting you to be Jaco, or know every song they throw at you, or sight read. (MAYBE basic charts)
As a bassist, even boners usually sound OK in the mix. Root thumping is OK.
If you're far from the city, playing along with radio stations you don't normally listen to.
There's no such thing as too much theory.
Out for a glorious run with some colleagues this morning before jumping back into the truck and heading to the next stop. Nice to keep that sense of normalcy while on the road. #tourlife #windensemble #doublebass #bassist

I've played there a few times when I still lived in Frankfurt.
If it's a caravan of cars, I'm in.
If they decide train, I'm out. For the exact same reasons I don't go to *ANY* of the jam sessions in Frankfurt: it's a minimum 3 hour round trip, more likely 6.
Plus the mobility issues.
Also, the jam sessions tend to end late. Trains are sporadic in the wee hours.

Attention Basstodon: I have opinions about the Fender Gold foil Jazz bass
It isn't a jazz bass.
The most iconic part of the J-bass tone, at least to me, is the warm, tight, slightly nasal, burbling bridge pup (e.g. in Jaco Pastorious's stuff).
This bass dispenses with a bridge pup. Sure, it's very pretty. But the tone is not going to be classic J-bass tone. Imo.
