I've been looking for a version of the #KJV #Bible to put on my #Braille display, a Brailliant Bi40X and found one on Bookshare, but when I tried downloading it on my Brailliant, it said error unzipping file, so I downloaded it on my laptop and put it on a flash drive. This worked well until I unplugged that from my laptop, when my hand didn't work right. I unplugged it, but instead of moving it toward me and plugging it into my Brailliant, I threw it across the room! Lol!

I hear Christians say the word "love" so often. In fact, they all tend to abuse the word as if it is what the Bible is all about. What exactly does the word "love" אהבה mean in the original Hebrew Bible?
The Hebrew root of אהבה is אהב and אהב means "to love" and "to be attached to". ה possibly means "being". דביקות (davkut) means attachment or devotion. Maybe that's why there is no difference of the word "love" in "I love icecream" and "I love my mother". 😂 #bible #hebrew #love #christian

Ask your library to ban that book which describes the adventures of a young Jewish man, who never married, never had a child, had a temper and was a magician. He healed people by touching, conjuring food, living with twelve men and sleeping with them naked on the roof of the house, and was friends with a hooker.
Beside that, the first part of the book has a favorite view of slavery, slaughter and its main protagonist, a middle east deity, is the god of ISIS.
Relating a conversation had on Discord. The prompt from them was:
"How do you guys continue to believe even with the apparent contradictions in the Scriptures like 2 Samuel 8:4 vs. 1 Chronicles 18:4? Things like this are actually causing a lapse in my faith, as of late."
(Note: the two passages are identical in the KJV, except one of them says that there are seven hundred horsemen, and the other says there are seven thousand. In most translations, these two passages are not identical, and many of the translations just say 1700 horsemen.)

Short version to save a listen: Chronicles is written as a Military-Historical Annal, and as such there are some liberties taken with numbers in some places. This was a common trope of the time for stories about kings, and would have been no different for stories about King David. The example Dr. Heiser uses takes a different sample and breaks it down as similar to other Ancient Near-Eastern texts.
If seven thousand vs seven hundred has you beat up, you must have real difficulties with the inconsistencies in the Synoptic Gospels.
In general, I find my faith doesn't lie in the specifics, but rather in the spaces between. Reading the Word and studying it -- seeing how other people answer these same tough questions you're asking? That's what really renews and affirms my faith. For example, I find a lot of the Jewish histories a little hard to take literally. Especially pre-David. The Bible can be the inspired Word of God and still be a bunch of words written by human beings in certain rhetorical and poetic styles designed to evoke a response in their audience.
Everyone eventually hits a wall where they say "You know, this is just a little TOO far," but there are a great body of people across history that have read those same words, asked those same questions, and figured out an answer. I pray you find your answer, my friend.

Many people find the begats in the Old Testament to be pretty boring. A lot of people who start reading the #Bible stop there because they just can't bring themselves to get through it. Others skim that section to get through it as quickly as possible.
I'll admit, it IS kinda boring, and I was one who skimmed it.
But I always get goosebumps when I read the genealogy of Jesus in Luke 3:23-38 (Maybe because by the time we get there, we actually *know* who many of these people are):

In my mind, this is why #Jesus often refers to Himself as "The Son of Man" ("Man" being Adam), and also why Paul sometimes refers to Jesus as "The Second Adam" (Adam's actions introduced sin, evil, and punishment into the world, and through Jesus' actions, we're saved from the consequences of that sin).
YMMV, but to me, that's such a rich history. It makes me feel like I really... belong, you know? :-)

I'm thinking about making a plaque for a friend.
Growing up, whenever anyone would pluralise the name of that book, my youth pastor would say, "There was only one Revelation."
He must have said it several hundred times a week. It was a big deal for him.
He was right, though, of course. And to this day, it grates me no end whenever I hear someone referring to the last book of the #Bible as "Revelations". :P

When I first joined, I was a bit lazy, and also couldn't really think of anything to write about myself, and as the time wore on, it just started to feel superfluous, and even a bit silly, to write an introductory post when I've been here for almost a year already.
But here goes:
I was born and bred in #SouthAfrica, and I really love it here. I often post stuff using that hashtag, both slice-of-life type posts, and occasional commentary on local #news. Specifically, I live in the City of #Ekurhuleni.
I'm an independent author, and have written a few books (website link in my bio), but for various reasons, I haven't written anything long-form in some time.
And one of those reasons is that I'm #PartiallySighted (I have #RetinitisPigmentosa), which has progressed quite rapidly in my old age. As such, you might see me using the #accessibillity hashtag from time to time, as I comment on the sorry state of it in websites and software.
For the same reason, I don't read nearly as much as I used to. I'm trying to get into #AudioBooks, but I'm still struggling with them, man. I really battle to focus long enough to finish one. (At this point, I should probably also tag #bookstodon and @bookstodon). :-)
By trade, I'm a Software Developer, and I love technology. But I'm an old-school lover of #technology, so I dislike web apps, struggle with mobile (also see my #disability), and prefer to work on a big monitor with an external keyboard and mouse, rather than a tiny laptop. Unlike most developers, I can't use multiple monitors because I keep losing the mouse cursor. ;-) #programming #development
Because of my interest in tech, I'm also often commenting on the state of the #Fediverse in general and #Mastodon in particular, and what I think should be done (spoiler alert: I think Mastodon is perfect the way it is, and it should be left well enough alone). :-P
Last but not least, I'm a #Methodist Christian, and my #faith is very important to me, so you'll sometimes see me sharing inspirational #Bible passages and discussing things related to #Christianity and Christian #theology.
Oh, I'm also a husband to the most wonderful wife any man could ever hope for, and a foster father to two beautiful teenage girls, but I don't tend to mention them much, because privacy.

A Syrian Muslim who obtained permission from the Swedish police to burn the #Torah and the #Bible in front of the Israeli Embassy in #Stockholm, has chosen not to burn the books.
Ahmet Allus said he wanted to draw attention to the fact that no sacred book should be burned.
"I am a Muslim, and I cannot burn sacred and religious books," he said.
"There is a difference between freedom of expression and insulting ethnic groups. Burning the #Quran and other religious books should be considered a hate crime. I obtained permission from the police for the act of burning the Torah and the Bible to draw attention to this. I have absolutely no intention of burning any religious book."

District in Utah removes the Bible from elementary and junior high schools due to ‘vulgarity or violence’.
As an atheist this saddens me…and that’s because I don’t believe in banning books. No good comes of it. Nor will this tit for tat response end book banning, it will just embolden Evangelicals who will see it as evidence of the End Days.
The #Bible has been removed from libraries in Utah after a parent used a new law that permits the removal of "pornographic".
The parent argued that the Bible contained topics such as incest, bestiality, genital mutilation, and infanticide, making it pornographic under the new definition set forth in Utah Code Ann. § 76-10-1227.
A GOP lawmaker expressed "sadness" regarding the situation.
