First day a little bit of #snowing this season. The ambient temperature was several degrees above zero and so nothing settled and #cycling was just in the cold, with a little added wind chill. The ground conditions were just like during rain. After that, even coming into an unheated house and quickly changing into dry clothes again made it seem surprisingly cosy for a couple of hours.

I live in a hilly place and when biking uphill. Using the smallest gear on the crank and the cassette, the chain skips over some cogs. I identified it is only on that combination (smallest gear on both).
I suspect I need to change the cassette, but is there any other alternative path I can take?

Just spent $53 for tires & tubes for a bike I picked up at curb 2 blocks away. It is in good shape except for rotted tires, stiff derailleurs rusty cables & chain. "Blaster" rust buster/lubricant will deal with drivetrain; I'll replace cables. Range adjustment screws on rear derailleur had it locked it in lowest gear.; easy fix done. Tires come Sunday, bike will be like new to deliver Monday. I'll add basket. It will probably sit at World Relief until Feb-Mar, but ready if needed.

We made it a day trip (from the Santa Cruz Mountains) with two Tern #ebikes, one analog mountain bike, a toddler's scooter, and five humans - all with our electric car.
Because #JFKPromenade prioritizes people, we let our 13-year-old bring his toddler sister on his e-bike, and our 10-year-old was able to practice riding with no hands. 🙌

Yesterday night, on our bike ride from school, as my helmeted kid and I were stopped at a red light on the painted bike lane, the driver next to us lowered their window to ask me where my helmet was.
Initially taken aback by the sheer entitlement of the request, I curtly told them to mind their own business, after all they were driving 2 tons of metal so where was their helmet?
Visibly on the back foot, they tried to justify that they were a “concerned [citizen]” (wink @bekopharm ). I replied I was concerned cars like theirs could kill me, which gave them an opportunity to mention the hypothetical usefulness of a helmet (in a collision with a car, it’s near useless).
At this point, the light turned green and while we started to ride away, they pretended to ram me by swerving at low speed into the bike lane.
At this point I’m used to drivers simply annoyed at bicyclists, probably because they would like to cross at the red too, but this was a new one for me.

Day 4 of the road in front of my house being just past a "closed, local traffic only" sign due to the major intersection nearby being torn up.

We are working on a global version of this map for Flanders https://www.anyways.eu/map/?#9.74/51.1475/4.4745 and I used that data to create this map. I downloaded all schools from postgis, added a country polygon layer and averaged out safety scores on the country level.
I created a gradient to reflect the same colors as on the map for Flanders to give a color to each country. More yellow is better, black is worse.

What do you people use when it's raining out? I currently have cycling pants that I put on (see picture) but while they work really well, they're a bit of a hassle to put on and off. And if I'm going iin a shop for example, I wish I could just take them off real quick instead of going through the store with it. But it's too cumbersome to take off.
I know there are other solutions, but I'm curious to hear what you all use.
