I’ve been work-from-home since before the pandemic. I’ll go to a remote site occasionally, mostly by bike. This past summer I started using the ebike’s assist more, cutting that trip down to 35 minutes - a bit slower than car on the way there, as fast or faster on the way back.
The last couple of weeks I’ve had to go by car a few times due to reasons, and I’ve discovered, coming back during rush hour, that…

I’m first owner of a low-milage Honda Fit. It’s a reasonably tight vehicle, I’ve got the heater on recirculate. It’s not strong.
In low traffic, it’s gone. But it’s _really_ noticeable at rush hour. And quite unpleasant.

First day a little bit of #snowing this season. The ambient temperature was several degrees above zero and so nothing settled and #cycling was just in the cold, with a little added wind chill. The ground conditions were just like during rain. After that, even coming into an unheated house and quickly changing into dry clothes again made it seem surprisingly cosy for a couple of hours.

When people say that a car gives them freedom, I'm baffled. With a car I'd be at the mercy of traffic flow, accident-caused jams and availability of parking.
A bicycle is not bound by any of that. To me a bicycle is freedom. If I have a train leaving in the morning, I don't need to add a buffer for traffic or finding parking. I can just leave when I need to and be confident I'll be on time.
I don't understand people wanting to drive into the city.

Ok, so my fingernails have broken through the fingertips on some very old leather driving gloves that I use as cold-weather biking gloves. Those fingers got very cold this morning.
Should I just try stitching the tears up or should I cut the fingertips off some gardening gloves I don't use because of holes elsewhere and suture them over the fingertips of the 'biking' gloves?
I think just above the big knuckle would be a good place to aim with the suturing.

Big brain Usonian traffic engineering moment
No kayak or hiking this weekend. Took the little fold-up out for some #biking. No GPS, but it's roughly 15 miles or 24 kilometers. Got passed by everyone, even parents pulling kids in trailers. But I made it, and that's the point.
It's all exploratory to see if I need to make changes to the bike. And I do! I need a much lower low gear. At 69 years old, I'm not sure I can get in much better shape, so I'm going to have to get a better bike.

I have an eBike with a standard chain. It's a Class 1 Bulls, meaning pedal assist only, and most actual use is as a rather heavy standard bike.
My use is a mix of errands and commuting. The assist is great for cargo, when I have to get someplace far-ish as fast as I possibly can, and I when I'm biking up my BRUTAL HILL, which is the kind of hill that's steep enough in parts that automobile drivers complain about it.
Given this kind of usage, what's a good bio degreaser and what's a good lubricant for my chain?

I tested the Jogger #mobileLinux fitness tracking app in the spirit of #coffeeneuring with a bike ride to a true classic of the #Helsinki coffee scene, Kaffa roastery.
The app has some rough edges, but is totally usable already, after being out for about a week.
