What a load of blatant crazy people talking crazy stuff.
The bill is a terrible awful law which will do nothing to protect anyone while being onerous on service providers. It it unenforceable, poorly defined, will drive internet business outside the UK where we have less control of it, and will expose people to more dangers online.
If you use the internet from the UK you better be prepared to be more spied upon by business and stalked by the state than ever before. Maybe get your ID out every time you wanna leave Facebook.

Dubbed the “#Big #Lie #Bill” by critics, the American Confidence in Elections (#ACE) Act is spearheaded by Committee on House Administration Chair Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) and includes nearly 50 standalone bills from the chamber’s GOP members.
The Declaration for American Democracy (DFAD), a coalition of over 260 groups, said in a statement it was “deeply concerned” about the bill, warning that “the benign-sounding name of this legislation cloaks an extremist, anti-voter effort to increase the role of megadonors in our elections and encourage deliberate barriers to make it harder for eligible voters to cast their ballot.”

I write in strong opposition to #Assembly #Bill #886, the ill-named “California Journalism Preservation Act” — legislation that, while well-intentioned, is in fact counterproductive.
The legislation extorts one industry cartel on behalf of another. While Big Tech (two companies in this case) deserves sanctions for misbehavior in other realms, this bill is nothing but a link tax. Among other flaws, it would seriously degrade the essential value of the open Internet, with major negative implications for freedom of expression.
As for helping #journalism, AB 886 is misguided at best. It would send money to some of the nation’s worst financial manipulators, the hedge funds that have bought up, looted, and are well on the way to destroying most of what remains of local daily journalism in #California.
