Just like with #blockchain and cryptocurrencies, "AI" gets hyped and grifted well beyond its capabilities resulting in distorted public understanding of what it is/is not.

It's funny how you never hear #blockchain much anymore, especially around #ai since implementing AI on some BS blockchain would be the most garbage idea ever.
@consected OK, the cryptography cost of Git and of a basic #Blockchain are similar, because a Git repo is to all intents and purposes a (branching) blockchain.
I'd argue there is definite utility to cryptographically signing contributions to #OpenSource software, since if someone poisons a widely used library with a #ZeroDay, that's a really major real world problem.
Whether we need that level of auditability on more minor projects is of course open to question. >>>
I've just been listening to a podcast by someone I very much respect, in which she's being sold snake oil by a #crypto bro. It's in the nature of good people that they are trusting, and there's enough appearance of complexity around #Blockchain to bedazzle the credulous.
But essentially blockchain is a very simple idea, and once you understand it, you understand why it's a bad idea.
