At my cervical screening appointment today, the doctor said to me, 'Well, you're nearly 50... it's worth doing some investigative tests for things like diabetes, high cholesterol...' and she rattled off several other diseases I could potentially look forward to as I age.
I'm fine with doing the tests -- my family tree is littered with a litany of inheritable conditions, so I figure it's best to know rather than not -- but I'm also pondering the way ageing is medicalised. I don't know. I like living and I'd like to have any conditions well managed, and at this age, most can be managed with lifestyle changes, I guess. And I'm generally healthy, so I'm not expecting bad news!
Just thinking about life and the changing body, I suppose. And what that means in medical terms too.

I'm 3 episodes into #Bodies on Netflix and I'm just not getting into it. Part of it is my general annoyance at a lot of takes on time travel, and I'm pretty sure by the end of this I'm gonna be super annoyed. Part is that I'm just not really caring all that much for the characters.
I guess it's popular though. Not sure if I'll bother finishing it, since that will just boost those numbers, which is all streaming services care about.

That is the plot of the recently released limited series.
At the conclusion, if you understand it, you're being asked: If time is linear, how can it be changed?

Kind of wild that the original comic, which was adapted into Netflix’s mini-series Bodies, is out of print. DC seem to have rushed out a reprint but even that disappeared off the shelves and it’s unavailable again (or rather it’s unavailable again at a reasonable price).

Had to double check to make sure I didn't imagine the limited series tag.
Apparently there's just no way to be sure that #Netflix won't leave you hanging.
And I'm fine with open-ended conclusions, sad endings or even when it's partially up to the viewer to interpret some things. But mysterious questions inserted into the ending (new open brackets in the plot), is just disrespectful of my time.
Not a fan of that, despite the series being excellent.

I’m at the halfway mark, and it’s painful but powerful to watch people who are “other” —by race, religion, orientation, disability— survive a system that’s hostile to them by serving it. (One occasionally subverts it.) Many have no choice, short of living in moral purity while scavenging in the wilderness, but to serve a hostile system to some degree.
BTW, Inspector Closet Case’s pretty, pretty eyelashes are a special effect all by themselves.

Just finished Netflix’s ‘Bodies’, and the DS Hasan hug in the final minutes of the last episode has got my eyes watering up. The most moving moment I’ve seen in TV in years.
As someone who struggles with self-forgiveness, the coming together of the key themes was very powerful indeed.

Knowing that he's being influenced by the ubiquitous #god botherers, I responded:

He thought a bit about that, and then came the next BIG question:
"What happens when we #die"?
I carried the analogy further and told him:
"We become a part of the electricity that runs through the entire #planet that let's everything live. Which is super important, because without that electricity, nothing would live."
Long pause ... "And, is that #heaven, Daddy"?
I replied: "Well, nobody knows for sure, but a lot of really #smart people think it is."

We have watched 4 of the 8 episodes of Bodies, a new "genre-bending" mini-series on Netflix, where four detectives in four different time periods of London find themselves investigating the same murder. Great acting and excellent production values, we stopped because it was just too unbelievable, confusing, and a tad silly. Such a shame, because a series devoted to just any one of the 4 murders on their own would have been great. But all lumped together it became so confusing.
What's everybody watching this weekend? I tried watching #Bodies. Kept falling asleep. Three episodes later I realized I wasn't interested and quit watching. Now I'm looking for something new. What's good?
