People are fighting back. #Unions are fighting back and seeing major wins! #ReproductiveRights won in the #USElections last night! Protests across the US calling for a #Ceasefire in Gaza are only gaining momentum and putting pressure on politicians. There is still hope for a better world!

But we need ways to unify these issues and foster greater #solidarity. We need ways to articulate a compelling vision for a better world. We need to not leave behind those who continue to take #covid precautions. I think #BodilyAutonomy is the way forward for that unity and a way to articulate that vision.

I think #BodilyAutonomy needs to be a key organizing principle for the #left. It ties together so many issues that seem unrelated: #AbortionRights, #ZeroCovid, #WorkersRights, and #EnvironmentalJustice.

My body should be mine to control, whether that's refusing an unwanted pregnancy, #covid19 infection, working conditions that harm my mental and physical health, or a planet polluted with toxins becoming unliveable due to extreme heat.

There are more issues beyond these that don't impact me directly because of my cis and white privilege, such as #TransRights and #RacialJustice, but I recognize that my fight for bodily autonomy is bound up with these fights. Through the lens of bodily autonomy, there's a lot of opportunities for building #solidarity. Everyone should have bodily autonomy as a #HumanRight.

I don't use the term "Talibangelical" lightly. The US Christofascists diligently built decades of momentum to slash women's rights one by one, and they won't stop anytime soon.

Their agenda?

* Abolish women's reproductive choice (eliminate bodily autonomy)
* Roll back progress on fair pay and protection from sexual harassment at work
* Repeal women's right to vote
* End no-fault divorce, trapping women in marriages
* Block ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution (yeah, equality is still not codified!)
* Ban birth control
* Indoctrinate the next generation via the education system, book bans, censorship in school curriculum

The GOP end game looks a lot like Afghanistan under Taliban rule (from AP News):

the #medical bill finally came from Aeden's two-hour #EmergencyRoom #hospital visit in April... insurance paid $800, leaving us with $600 left to pay. this is WITH my husband's employer subsidized #healthinsurance that he pays hundreds of dollars out of each paycheck for. thankfully with the social security my dad gets while living with us, we can cover it without having to take out a loan, but this makes me SO FURIOUS. we were there for TWO HOURS, all they did was check Aeden's vitals, then give him a dose of ibuprofen after determining he had another ear infection. TWO. FUCKING. HOURS. every year, thousands of #Americans become destitute, thanks to crippling #medicalDebt, or they DIE because #prescriptionDrugs they NEED are too expensive. meanwhile, in CIVILIZED countries , you can be in the hospital for days, even weeks, getting all sorts of medical treatment, and pay only a couple hundred, if anything at all.

and this is to say nothing of the many OTHER things wrong with this country, like the rampant #gunViolence that still #Republicans refuse to pass the slightest amount of #gunControl to mitigate, the demonization of #mentalIllness yet refusal to fund affordable access to treatment for #mentalHealthcare, the rising tides of #whiteNationalism perpetrating #hatecrimes against anyone who isn't a straight white "" christian"" male, the rampant #climateChange #conspiracyTheorist deniers, the assault on #dragQueens, #trans rights, and all other #lgbtq #queer people just for existing, the stripping of #bodilyAutonomy from people who can bear children, relegating us all to #forcedBirth broodmares, and so much else...

The abortion argument is about controlling women and their bodies, and it’s as disgusting as it is shameful. This is pure misogyny.

Abortion isn’t the crime here. The crime is the abuse of women mentally, emotionally, and physically. They are being denied control over their own bodies and health decisions. These are personal, private matters; they deserve the utmost respect.

Women will remedy this problem at the polls. I’ll be voting with them.

"Secret Shoppers" in Oklahoma pretended to be pregnant women. They called 34 hospitals in the state to ask about the hospitals' policies on pregnancy complications requiring abortions.

"I think one of the most frightening statements, which was at one of the hospitals, the person was trying to be reassuring and she said,

'Oh, well, you know, in the case of a medical emergency, we would try to use the woman's body as an incubator to just try to keep the pregnancy going as long as possible'"

In the US, we make women wait in the hospital parking lot until they are on the verge of death before turning their expiring bodies into incubators in the ER.

This is so scary...not just this actual ruling, but the ripple effect that this will bring to the definition of "Standing." The level of connection to an issue and what "a concrete and particularized injury or actual and imminent harm that was caused by the action they’re complaining about," actually means will change...possibly even if the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals strikes it down, because of his 67 page opinion.

In addition, this (potentially) means that one person that has a problem with a (possibly life saving) medication could rip it from the hands of all Americans, and the testing, blood, sweat, and tears that the #FDA put in, and the lives that will be inexorably changed by the ignorance or bigotry of that person.

FYI - for English trans women :flag_transgender: - the new NHS HRT prescription prepayment certificate (HRT PPC) designed mainly for menopause is *surprisingly* trans women inclusive (sadly trans men exclusive) but amazingly in the current political climate, they actually didn't create additional gatekeeping around us ... Please don't flame me 🔥 for the other zillion public NHS gender-care inadequacies 🙏

Highlights:
- Available today April 1st (in theory ...)
- It should cap HRT costs to a maximum £19.30 per annum
- Includes estradiol pills, gel, patches and progesterone but *not* testosterone or any antiandrogens

The Satanic Temple is so attractive to so many because the desperate belief exists that there is "one weird trick" to defeat the assault on #abortion and #BodilyAutonomy by Christian nationalists and other reactionaries.

There isn't.

Our opponents are not the fae to be outfoxed by clever wordplay. Our enemies will not be vanquished by pointing out their "hypocrisy" with superior "logic.

The #forcedBirth movement spent decades voting, sure, but they also created a movement that did not depend on any particular election or politician or organization or legal case to be their savior.

Those who have desired to steal #AbortionAccess away from tens of millions did it with their money, with their time, with their attention, and their dedication, and they did it day after day, year after year, decade after decade.

We must fight them with work, boring, exhausting work.

Not with magic, and certainly not with grifts.

A personal UK #Trans healthcare update. After seeing my supportive GP today we:

🔹 signed-off a shared-care agreement with GenderGP
🔹 arranged baseline blood tests
❔ can she prescribe GnRH blockers? (she'll follow up)
🔹 uploaded my Deed Poll on medical records
🔹 started the NHS name & gender marker change process (admin team)

I'd started DIY HRT since a 4-year wait is unacceptable, and it's *forced* things to happen. Trans people deserve minimal gatekeeping #InformedConsent & #BodilyAutonomy
