I bought a replacement and gave it up as an offering when returning the original. After some back room ISBN and publishing date checking (I checked when I bought it too. Pretty sure they have to be the exact same to be considered a true replacement) the nice lady came out, scribbled over the library code and slid the stained copy over to me. “We’re good. This one’s all yours.” I promised to stay away for a while, thanked her and ran off into the night.
Kind of a round about way of buying a used book (for full price) but stuff happens. 🤷♂️

@paulinporirua I have now finished KSR's Ministry For The Future. A good but not great book. Actually two books.
One, follows people affected by and trying to do something about the #ClimateEmergency in the near future. The other is theories and how to's on economic ideas like a carbon coin, and science of refreezing seawater. I'd probably have enjoyed more of the 1st book with less of the 2nd.

As many of you know I'm writing a #book, an #AutoBiography.
I'd like to protect it from eventualities. Not that it's any good - at least not yet - but I'd still like to release it one day and not loose it.
So what I'm looking for is some setup, where I can store it online, work on it, have backups and have someone else have access to it in case I die from suicide or something. Oh and I shouldn't be able to delete it and the backups either.
That someone should be a person I can trust and that would be interested in doing something with the unfinished book if it came to it. Oh and the person should ideally know German, or know a good translator, because for now the book only exists in German (I'd like to translate it myself to English one day, but it might never come to that).
And the setup shouldn't cost too much and of course be FLOSS.

My first book is out! Well, I edited, coordinated and wrote much of a #book on the #history of the Science Writers & Communicators of Canada/Canadian #Science Writers Association. :"From Typewriters to Twitter". It is 92 pages long with lots of fun photos, and may be the only book about science #writing in #Canada. It covers 50 years of the association, and profiles a number of big name Canadian science #journalists - including some eccentric ones. Controversies the association has faced in the past are included. Romance! Serious stuff! Humor! Short bios!

#Book Completed reading the Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman. An excellent book, fourth in the Thursday Murder Club series. While the reading of the book was superb, the interview between the narrator and author on the Audible book was incredibly fluffy. The content was interesting but that could have done with some serious editing.
@kottke I think you would be interested in a book that came recently to mind: Anne Wilson Schaef's When Society Becomes an Adddict.
I read it shortly after it was published in 1988, and at the time it was eye-opening about the problems in the company in which I worked. But in rereading it now, it has a much broader reach.
