I’m a #queer, #British #bisexual (they/them) #sociologist who has been living in #Japan for 20 years. Until last year I was a tenured Associate Professor at a top #science and #engineering university in central #Tokyo researching #HCI and #sociology of #community. I took (very) early retirement to focus on my #MentalHealth after the workplace environment triggered what I now know is #CPTSD.
I toot on lots of things but expect #Judaism, #feminism, #trans and #nonbinary rights, #mentalIllness (especially #depression, #anxiety and #therapy); also #research on use of #technology and life in Japan.

Picking up lunch as a treat for @amerikate and I after I had a dental appointment for a routine clean.
I, a #British #Immigrant with #USCitizenship am at my favorite #Bcorp community bakery, a bakery that doesn’t use some ingredients because of the social or environmental cost of using them. The staff are treated well, and always have a smile. They’re a mixture of different ages, races, sexual identities and genders.
The guy in front of me was #Italian. The lady sat next to me as I wait for my sandwiches is having a #FaceTime conversation in #French about the price of something she wants to buy, which quickly morphs into a conversation about children.
Across the room, a #Korean couple are talking about something. (I don’t speak Korean.)
The room is full of life.
Nobody is hating. Nobody is mistreating someone because of their appearance, where they’re from, or their religious beliefs.
I freaking love this part of the #PNW. I love this part of #Portland #PDX. This is what it means to be #American.

One interesting thing about this study is that the #fossil was distorted during the fossilization process. Depending on the interpretation of the actual size of the ant, different possibilities exist for how it got to what is now southern British Columbia.
