I realized this morning that meditation is not *special* in terms of whether I find the time to do it or not.
It is exactly like my daily walks or exercises. Today, I decided to grab my umbrella, and head out despite the rain. It was a light rain, mind you, but I do prefer taking the time to go on a walk, rather than try to fit some dancing during my daily routine.
Meditation is the same. It is easier if I set time aside for it than hope that it is going to happen sometime in the day.
I did meditate this morning.
All phenomena are Buddha.
Buddha is in all phenomena.

A perhaps better translation for the Buddhist Pali word "dukkha"— often presented as "suffering"— might be "unsatisfactoriness."
It can get subtle. It's not just about painful miserableness.
Because as long as we're not awakened — soberly in love with the wonder of living being — that's dukkha.
An analogy that occurs to me is how even when we're having fun in a dream, there's a kind of "suffering" entailed as long as we don't appreciate that it's a dream.

@perlman Many a Westerner #Buddhist monk irreparably alienated their family & friends through too much "zeal of the convert".
In a monastery, the senior monastic alone gets to let their (tongue-in-cheek here) "inner advice monster" (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl0rmx7aa0w) teach as much as they see fit. This is bog-standard "tight culture", doing it's thing; **it's not specific to #Buddhism**. It's folly - a very easy mistake to make - when the more junior monastics believe that this role extends to them.
🧘 Buddhism and meditation have helped me alleviate my suffering, many times. At this point I might be guilty of convert's disease.
☸️ Buddhists are not known for proselytizing but sometimes I consider it.
🙏 Can you imagine a Buddhist organization going door to door, asking people if they would like to learn more about Buddhism or join a meditation practice group?

Anyhow... Blaise. and many street preachers, didn't consider that the spiritual realm isn't binary (or at least that the options out there aren't binary).
Side note: Buddhist hells at least are temporary... you get to burn off your bad karma and get another chance at a normal life again.
Another side note: I find it interesting the concept of prison in the United States is set up to be punitive and not, say, for rehabilitation.

Today is the #Buddhism / #Daoism Ghost/Ullambana festival in #Taiwan. #OTD, we put out offerings for the wandering ghosts and our ancestors. Variations of the festival origin exist, but at its core is a story about Maugdalyayana saving his mother from a hunger ghost status. This is one of the earliest memories I had about ghosts. The mother was eventually saved, but the imagery and the metaphor of her distress stay with me since. #mythology #folklore
I’ve been learning about Buddhism. Sometimes it’s said that human brains are like monkeys. I think I’m more like my cat, though: she yells at the bathroom door because it’s closed, but she doesn’t actually want to be in the bathroom. You open the door, she sees the shower door is closed, she yells at it. You open it, and she leaves. That’s my brain also. I just don’t like closed doors.
As a personal Buddhist practice, I like to write the word "impermanent" on my arm, and then observe how it gradually wears away... #buddhism #meditation

Amazing update: the nokotsudo (columbarium) at Laihaina Hongwanji Mission survived the wildfire! The losses are still devastating and irreplaceable, but there’s joy in the survival of the community’s ancestral ashes. These are a crucial link of ongoing memory, care, and love for so many. A terrible day. The fire killed dozens of people and destroyed Lahaina, including the Lahaina Hongwanji Mission (founded in 1904), Lahaina Jodo Mission (1912) and Lahaina Hokoji Shingon Mission (1902). The Shingon temple was the 1st outside Asia. The Jodo one had a rare 3-story pagoda and replica of the Kamakura Daibutsu. The Shin sangha has over 70 member families.
