After a hiatus of over two weeks, I have a new #bike. When I took the last one in for a service, the replacement of worn out components would have been nearly as high as the cost of a new one. So I decided to retire it and to get a new one. Instead of #black, this time I’ve gone for #red which and this one has #disc, rather than #rim #brakes. I spent this morning transferring a few things over like the #BikeComputer.

Personally, it should be in Philippine English. My decision was based on keeping our advantage in the region when it comes to being English speakers. Which in turn also helps our tourism, because it brings in our Asian neighbours here to learn English, even to live here because they can communicate easily with us, like the Koreans and Japanese. Not to mention, Europeans and other ASEAN citizens.
But we should also keep Filipino as a subject, the way the Constitution mandated it (“the sum of all Philippine languages”). If said language is going to be stuck as the “Manila-Tagalog” dialect, might as well abolish it.
Similarly, the local languages and/or dialects are taught as a special language to preserve their own. As recent studies have shown, languages shape our mind, our culture, and who we are. Even the way we speak and express ourselves is influenced by the language we are using, and we switch our entire persona when switching languages.
However, since English is not our native language (even if it is Philippine English), it should be the main language for schools. It is easy to develop Filipino and our local languages and/or dialects because we use it on a daily basis, but we rarely use English unless one is living in a “high class” neighbourhood.
This way, the students will have a good command of English by the time they graduate, instead of learning and improving their English after.
