A Blue Jays sitting on my willow tree. Long blue tail feather and back is blue as well as the wings that do have white stripes. The underbelly is whitish grey.

The pigment in Blue Jay feathers is melanin, which is brown. The blue color is caused by scattering light through modified cells on the surface of the feather barbs.

A Downy Woodpecker on the left looking at a Sparrow whose looking back and the two seem to be sharing a moment.

A common crow walking in water in yard. The crow is far from common. Large black feathered bird, very intelligent. There is data now of these birds teaching information to young birds of who and what is danger. This we noticed in our own yard as they all have no fear of us as they swoop in and demand water or peanuts. Sometime even a bath.

A beautiful large luminescent green dragonfly which is facing right resting on some reeds. There were blue ones as well, I apologize for not knowing the name.

A Canada goose nest with four eggs on the side of a dirt road that goes to a friend house, pasture with small marsh to left of nest. Goslings make their appearance as early as the mid April.

A beautiful healthy red fox with a thick winter coat,
that literally crossed our path as we were stopped by a lake we like to picnic at on weekdays. One of those times you realize you’re holding your breath.

Two brown Beavers, mates, facing the camera who were so busy with gutturals chattering wooing each other .. they did not notice me. They were on the edge of a highway and I could not bear it, so slammed the car door and they went back into the water and on shore kitty corner so to speak.

Today in Labor History March 19, 1885: Louis Riel declared a provisional government in Saskatchewan, marking the start of the North-West Rebellion. At the same time the Métis people rose up against the Canadian government, there was an associated uprising by First Nations Cree and Assiniboine. However, Riel’s movement had a heavily religious tone that alienated most Indigenous tribes, as well as some Métis. Nevertheless, he had the allegiance of 200 armed Métis, a few other Indigenous warriors, and at least one white man. About 91 people died in the fighting that occurred that spring before the rebellion collapsed.

A quest for knowledge is an important factor in staying young when you're retired so I was excited to discover that Winnipeg is famous for the Fat Boy Burger.
