this last woman, covering an overnight shift, came a 1/2-hr late every night
to circumvent the timestamp of her arrival, she called the agency w a story that she "got to talking" & "let time slip by" & forgot to sign-in. she did this for all 6-nights that we had her
then, she fumbled around & slow-walked her departure, signing out a 1/2-hour late each day
she was able to add 5-hrs of overtime on a 3rd shift differential, & an hour to a holiday paid 3rd shift differential
she was there for my #father. not for my #mother. she was there for one adult. but, bc she asked my #mom, "how are you?" each morning, she called the agency to report that she was #caring for both of my parents. this increased her hourly by double. she did nothing else for my mom

someone tried to tel me it’s from my 5G cell phone and the new wifi cube to which i transitioned. that my ears are ringing from electronics being nearby, EMF (?) exposure…
and completely ignored the part where i’ve had high BP for at least three years now…

#CompassionFatigue is very real & it's another reason why #SelfCare matters. It's high in both #caregivers & #activism & many #health #medical related #FrontlineWorkers fields. We all need safe places to vent & also personal respite time. Sometimes self care is doing nothing but sleep or lie down. We need to be able to self monitor ourselves & reach out for more help & support when needed. It's hard to do that if you're not used to asking for help but we all need extra help sometimes ❤❤

Dad can't do his regular #HandExercises with left(antibiotics IV line is still on that arm) but insisted on doing his exercises with right hand. We did some bedside light stretches & leg lifts after.
I have extra respite help until Friday. Then, we're switched back to 6 hrs/week respite support after; anything over that isn't subsidized & we can't afford it.

Toddlers perceived as ‘less cute’ don’t get as much attention from their caregivers (iPads).
I have been swallowed up by the #hospice care vortex that consists of meeting every RN in my county who needs to do an intake with my mom and me. They’ve all been great. I’m just exhausted.

- In a national survey we characterized mediators of demographic (age, race) differences in the prospective acceptability of #ClosedLoop implanted devices. We found that concerns about hacking, privacy and differing attitudes about medical innovation were key mediators; in many cases the importance of such concerns was itself mediated by income level.

- In a national study of #dementia #caregivers we found high levels of #FinancialToxicity. Black, non-Hispanic caregivers are more likely to experience financial toxicity than White, non-Hispanic caregivers. In a base demographic model we were surprised to find older age as a protective factor; in a fully-adjusted model this is explained by the relationship between age and employment status (retirement and other unemployment).

One of my interests is also studying how chronic illnesses can impact the #mentalhealth of individuals and their #caregivers. This #metaanalysis investigated the familiar #psychopathology of people on the #autism spectrum (PAS). Our main finding is that mothers of PAS had higher #depressive symptoms than mothers of people with atypical #development (e.g., #ADHD, #DownSyndrome, and #cerebralpalsy).

Not too much I can do these days in the kitchen because of my #Parkinsons and mobility but one skill I still can do is pull my powerchair to the low bar and dump raw ingredients in #bread maker and turn it on.
I surprised my wife with a fresh loaf of #BananaBread today.
Thanks to my hand-held vacuum, I can even clean up the mess a little.
Wasn't able to get the wet and dry ingredients in the perfect place so some powder #dough on one side but she says it is good bread.

@calimari Not a scientist but very interested in the important research work you're doing. If you have the time and don't mind answering a question... Is there a method for sanitizing medicine bottles so pharmacies can reuse them? A #caregivers group I belong to has been having a conversation about how this type of plastic can be reused or eliminated and what kind of public awareness campaign we might be able to create in a push for change. My Google search came up with nothing useful.
Someone posted this "inspiration" in an online #caregivers support group and I'm giving it a big old NOPE.
If you're a #caregiver, I encourage you to **not** give your all. Please, be selfish. Find a way to put yourself first some times. An engine cannot run on empty. Making yourself a martyr is only going to get yourself in your own grave faster than you expect.
Seriously, reserve some of your energy to take care of yourself. You are worth it.

I’ve been thinking, for a while, about #caregivers.
I struggle with a lot of things in daily life due to being #disabled with #MEcfs. Some things, I think a #caregiver could help with; some things, not so much. Helping me clean my apartment would be a big help, for example.
I’m in the process of a #DisabilityBenefits claim in the US. Does anyone know whether that - if I get approved - would come along with the option for a caregiver from the government or something?
