And the #Philippines #earthquake (or earthquakes, including the intense aftershocks) had a similar mechanism to what’s predicted for #Cascadia: it’s called a megathrust quake (go ahead and laugh, you pervs), and it happens when one tectonic plate is sliding/subducting under another but becomes stuck/“locked” for a very long time, building incredible stress. Eventually it gives way. But the Cascadia quake is forecast to be ~100x stronger than the Philippines quake was.

On #RecordRidge near the town of #Rossland, #BritishColumbia, the perfect conditions exist for a very particular #plant called the #MountainHollyFern to grow.

Unfortunately for the Record Ridge #ferns, the high #magnesium content of the rocks in the area have attracted the #MiningIndustry’s attention. Junior #mining company #WestHighYield (WHY) Resources has been exploring the site since 2006..

Initially the state was focused on destroying the BLMG garden. Culminating with a standoff between a backhoe and ~100 community members.

So the cops and parks decided to sweep the homeless around the neighborhood instead.

There's no trail map at the park & no signage along the trails either. The whole trail system is under 3km so you can enjoy a lot of nature in a small area, if you keep on exploring all the trails.

Further to Mark's post which I boosted @ingalls . This 4.3M felt like a big truck passing by quickly. I had to question "did I just feel an earthquake?" That's how mild it felt here. Anyway, it was a deep earthquake, the JdF plate moved a little relative to the NA plate, probably.
