@GottaLaff This is why I'm glad the #Jesuits are running the show. The way #PopeFrancis has promoted #evolution, allowed women who have had an #abortion back into the church, and most importantly, updated the church's criminal code to finally punish #PedophilicPriests is inspirational.
#Catholicism still has a ways to go to make #amends for its crimes in the past, but its #Jesuit leadership's focus on science and #compassion has at least started them down the path toward atonement.
Watching Midnight Mass and it has me reflecting on how much more gothic the Catholic Church seems to be portrayed in American storytelling. It is good, and I accept that the gothic feeling is a part of the story. Still. A different Catholicism to what I grew up with. As one of my dearest friends puts it, I straddle the worlds of #evangelicalism and #Catholicism, at one point having been an #Anglican (#ACNA, then #TEC) before returning to Rome. Now I'm a member of one of the most traditional parishes in our archdiocese, and very happy there, though I'm probably a political and cultural outlier.
That said, I'm not interested in the culture/liturgy wars, nor do I want to indulge in secular or church politics.
