Today is #KidLitArtPostcard day, a day when children's book illustrators (current or aspiring) share postcard art as self-promotion. Here's mine!
This is also a good space to note that I have a new portfolio site just for my children's illustration: https://mdashow-kidlitart.carrd.co
An artistic liberty commission for someone from Furcation 2022, unfortunately I've lost their information and can't remember their name! Serves me right for taking almost a year to post this ^^; if you recognise this pretty snake lady, do let me know!
Here's a new piece: I drew this as a sample middle grade book cover. (I made the typography, too!)
That's my second perilous night-time portfolio illustration, I should try a fun, sunny scene next! 😄
An artistic liberty illustration for https://www.furaffinity.net/user/SoulSilverIV of their dragon character Archie having a nap in the sun ^^ I loved drawing the lighting on this one, dappled sunlight is my favourite!
I drew this illustration of Sister Susrael recently for a new card game from @sweetslicegames - you can see the full card as it will appear in their game on their account. Some influence/inspiration from Alphonse Mucha was part of the assignment. 😄
I drew this sketch for a retro-style witch ages ago and have been so busy that I only finally got around to painting it up last night. Took a while to decide on the colors but once I hit on turquoise and red, I was sold!
This will be available as a coloring page in my Etsy shop soon... 😁
Excited to get to share this key art I did for a new indie game called Alpine Lake, where you get to craft, construct and decorate your own little inn in the mountains.
The game now officially has a Steam page. Check it out if you're a fan of cozy, casual crafting games. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2341620/Alpine_Lake/

Another attack from this year's Artfight!! This one was for my hubby Jo (@ _sofinch on Twitter, @ jo_sofinch on Insta!) of his character Nita, on the right, and her girl Louise, on the left.
I keep having to make the disclaimer that it's not a Miss Fisher's AU. For...obvious reasons.
First time using WebGlaze on an image!

Wario only make him rockabilly (with a pinch of psychobilly thrown in for good measure.)
One more in my series of rockabilly-inspired Mario characters. Not the best in the series, but I was contractually obligated to add him to the line-up! 😄
Part 3 of 5 in the batch of Pathfinder party commissions I recently competed for Tom & his group! Please ignore the fact that I totally forgot to post Day 3 on Wednesday....I'm getting back into the swing of things lately :')
Next up we have Evalise, an undine unchained monk! She was really fun to draw, just like flowing water~
Efferdan ui Bennain, high priest of Efferd, the sea god -- an NPC (non-player character) illustration for the pen&paper roleplaying game "The Dark Eye" (Das Schwarze Auge). Painted in Krita and Photoshop.

This week I'm going to be uploading some commission work from the last month or two, so look out for that! Lots of fun Pathfinder character illustration - reaaally making me want to try PF2e...
This first one is for Tom, of his character Vemar :D
I'm available for commissions! I do portraits, pin ups, full illustration, character design, game art, key art, Steam capsule illustration/design, and even logo designs.
Visit http://michaeldashow.com/commissions/ for more information (and to see more of my work.)

So excited to finally be able to drop this massive art piece! This is a commission from a friend of their D&D party, The Red Sparrows. It's maybe the single piece I've spent the most time with, and since I've drawn these characters before it was super exciting to get to revisit them :D
I'll probably make another separate post for some closeups!
Waluigi, only make him Rockabilly.
Gotta admit, Waluigi's build and general demeanor made him a great fit for a rockabilly remake and I'm super happy with how this one came out!

Booette, only make her Rockabilly.
Another in my continuing series of rockabilly-style Mario characters. The biggest challenge with his was removing all of the frills on her dress (as rockabilly cuts a much cleaner silhouette) while still keeping her recognizable.
Spoiler: Waluigi will be next! 😎
Hi #PortfolioDay , you’re looking good – is that a new hairstyle?
I’m Mike, a long-time game industry vet, and I draw colorful pictures and character designs for video- and tabletop games and commissions.
You of course can see work here, and also at michaeldashow.com and linktr.ee/mdashow.
Mario, only make him Rockabilly.
I'm still working away at my series of rockabilly versions of Mario characters. Check my recent posts to see all the rest. (Now I have to decide who to do next: Waluigi or Booette? 🤔)
For #ThrowbackThursday a picture I drew of Scorpia from She Ra and the Princesses of Power.
Sorry I haven't had much new art to share: Still job-hunting while working on 3 freelance jobs. But I AM continuing with my series of Rockabilly Mario characters, with several sketches in the works!
Bowsette, only make her Rockabilly.
I'm sure many figured that Mario himself would be next in this series of rockabilly Mario characters - Bowsette isn't even canon! - but I had a sketch of her that I really liked... so here it is!
Princess Rosalina, only make her Rockabilly.
Continuing my series of Mario characters in rockabilly style. (Now I just have to decide on whether I do Luigi or Bowsette next! 😄)
(Btw, this piece is available as a coloring page if you want to try your own shot at her. It's at MichaelDashowDesigns.Etsy.com)
Hey, lookit that, it's #portfolioDay again... only now exclusively on Mastodon instead of somewhere else! So hi, I'm Mike, a character designer / artist / illustrator / Art Director who mostly makes art for games (computer, mobile, and tabletop.) Most of this art wasn't made for games, though, just work I'm proud of.
(fwiw, I'm also looking for work.)
Happy #PortfolioDay y’all!
I’m Liz (dungeonmistrix). I make TTRPG art & character illustrations! I love all things fantasy and scifi, especially with a romantic or tragic twist.
Available for hire on projects or private comm’s!
Part 2 of 4 of my redraws of our Shield of Celestia characters to celebrate the conclusion of Season 2 - onward to Season 3! Here we have Aylock, our phantom rogue with a mysterious amulet~
Our campaign is online at twitch.tv/shieldofcelestia if you want to check it out!
I'm so excited to share these! These are commissions recently completed for a friend, of their new TTRPG character Marna and Marna's tree eidolon, Mother.
I loved designing all the natural autumnal theming - and the bread basket was super fun too!
I decided to draw “fresh” portraits of our DnD group to celebrate our 2 year anniversary/the end of our 2nd major arc! Next arc: we officially become pirates??
First up is our Cleric of the Storm, Ruby! She is strong and amazing and, unlike the rest of us, unburdened by curséd magical objects haha
Here are some characters designs I've created mostly for casual mobile games over the past few years. Please keep me in mind if you need any character design work or Art Direction as I'm currently available for contract and FT work...
Also, I'll be at GDC (that's the Game Developer conference) in SF next week. If you will too, let me know if you'd like to meet up! 😄
The theme for this month's Character Design Challenge is "Fairytale Fighting Arena," imagining characters from classic fairy tales in all-out combat.
It's not much discussed, but the Witch from Hansel and Gretel was skilled at building a lot more than just houses out of gingerbread and candy!
My derby zombie for a criminally-underparticipated-in #dtiys from last fall by 'artbycherryjayne' on Instagram.
She drew her zombie in a more sexy pose but I just love drawing derby action poses so that's what I did.
Hi, #PortfolioDay good to see you here! I'm Mike from Oakland, Ca, USA. I love depicting colorful, fun characters and situations. I've done a bunch of work for games (computer, mobile, tabletop) and am looking for more opportunities to continue to do so, either contract or even full time.
You can see more work at www.michaeldashow.com.
My submissions for the #DrowSecretSatan2022 art exchange!! It’s always such a pleasure to see all the amazing characters folks have created 💜
I drew Tabia for Spikulec (@ the_spikulec on Twitter, @ Spikulec on Insta) and Eve for LegionnaireR (@ Legionnaire-R on Tumblr and @ Legionnaire_R on Insta)!
Happy New Year! My first post of the year is, appropriately enough, a rabbit! This particular rabbit baker is from a #dtiys (draw this in your style) challenge from lapin.siia on Instagram. And for me, I got laid off of work just before Christmas, so now I have a bit more time to participate in these challenges! (And brush up my resume and update my portfolio and job hunt... 😅)
Likely my last finished piece for the year, this was drawn for the monthly Character Design Challenge on Facebook. The theme this month was Express Delivery Riders.
This is Conrad. He’s a courier-orc delivering packages for Parcel Tonne. If you absolutely need it delivered across the Desolate Wastes, trust Parcel Tonne!
Now that most people who are going to get a physical copy have received theirs, I think it's probably safe to post this online. It's my illustrated holiday card for this year. My kid really wanted it to be a dieselpunk theme so that's where we went. (FWIW, I'm the engineer on the left.)
Another picture drawn for the Character Design Challenge on Facebook, this one is a kind of yokai (mythical spirit/creature from Japanese folklore) called a Kasha: A catlike creature who would pounce on funerals to steal the dead.
Every once in a while, I see a DTIYS challenge on Instagram and save the post for later. I needed a distraction tonight and started drawing.

I've finally finished my illustration for this year's family portrait holiday card (rather late but I've been busy) so now seems like a good time to share some holiday card illustrations from past years.
(I'm the one with the moustache.)
This is Yovana, a Cholita skateboarder. I drew her for a Character Design Challenge (on Facebook) last year, the theme for which was "Cholita Adventurer." I found some great reference photos of a Bolivian Cholita skateboarding crew that served as the inspiration for this design.
Hi, everyone! I'm Mike. I'm a professional artist / character designer / illustrator and I love creating whimsical, colorful character-based illustrations. I work mostly in games (mobile and tabletop these days.) I'm from Oakland, CA, USA.
Here are a handful of my favorite pieces. I'll be posting more - both older images and new ones as I create them.
