Hat die Frau ein Organ! Ich habe das Konzert einer Hammer-Live-Band erlebt, die vor 40 (!) Jahren nicht besser gewesen sein kann. Gut, dass ihr mich überzeugt habt. #ChrissieHynde hat hervorragende Musiker für ihre #Pretenders gefunden, die insgesamt härter klingen als früher. Das kleine #Columbiatheater hatte übrigens eine deutlich bessere Tonqualität als diese Verti MusicHall neulich. This is arguably the slinkiest song ever to be coaxed along a #reggae beat, owing in large part to #ChrissieHynde's haughty yet sultry vocals on the Pretenders’ groundbreaking debut album.
#GraceJones' trademark deadpan delivery over the killer track laid down by the tight Compass Point Studio house band is more dismissive, yet no less stunning, in her cover on her iconic album #WarmLeatherette. These are both women who have no time for your nonsense; your sex life complications are indeed not their fascinations.

Day 16: A song that's a classic favourite
"Talk of the Town" - #ThePretenders (1980)
TBH I'm not quite sure why this song has stuck with me so closely over the years. Did I hear it at an impressionably young age? Was is because it was on the soundtrack to that evocative, coming-of-age cult film Times Square? Does it have something to do with that addictive hook (Am7 > B7) and #ChrissieHynde's singular vocals? Yes to all of it. Anyway it's a classic I don't ever tire of.
🎧 In 2007, Canadian #LGBTQ rock band #TheCliks covered "Cry Me a River" on their debut LP, "Snakehouse."
That's #LucasSilvera on lead vocals — the first openly trans man to sign to a major label (#TommyBoy).
On reviewer described the band as "what might happen if #ChrissieHynde and the Murmurs' #LeishaHailey fell in love, got #Bowie to help out with insemination and gave birth to an indie rock love child."

Mit ihrem lupenreinen Rock landen die Pretenders seit vier Jahrzehnten Welthits. Als die Band Ende der 70er Jahre mit melodischem Rock die Szene betrat, nahm sie in dem von der Punkwelle erfassten England sofort eine Sonderstellung ein. Leadsängerin Chrissie Hynde wurde zur Garantin des unverkennbaren Sounds der Band und bewahrte deren musikalisches Profil über die Jahre hinweg.

I had tickets to see them at Madison Square Garden in late '81 but Martin Chambers put his hand through a window and they had to cancel a bunch of dates (it's even in his wikipedia entry! although they don't say how he did it).
I'd forgotten how much this album changed my life.
