Good evening from Thaxted. Today was my bonus #ChristmasEve holiday day, given by work, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it! Watched lots more #PlayForToday on #YouTube and have found it pleasing to be tucked away inside with the wind and the rain howling around the house. Lots of cuddles with Clio the cat, and started in on the plates of picky bits for tea - the kind of plate made up of oddments of salad items, cheese, crackers and chutneys. All very tasty. A lovely day all round. Pax!

I reviewed the English translation of a freeware visual novel called io [Christmas Eve] on (when else?) Christmas Eve. The original Japanese game was released in 2005 and the patch was released that same year. However, the game was updated in 2006, which broke the patch. In 2022, an independent translation group fixed the original 2005 patch so that it works with the final 2006 version of io [Christmas Eve]. This visual novel is Windows only (written in KiriKiri), but I was able to run it on Linux with the patch -- it requires a Japanese language environment and it works best in virtual desktop mode. I did have a minor font size issue -- but because I could read everything, I did not look too deeply into it.

I got booted off Twitter for 12 hours for telling a man, who trafficked three busloads of asylum-seeking refugees from Texas to the VP’s house on Christmas Eve in 18°F weather without telling anyone they were coming, to go sit on a cactus after he posted his customary message of good Christian holiday wishes, which stank especially of fresh hypocrisy this year.

A couple of days ago I mentioned the struggle I have with my mob of #kangaroos in care. 26 at the moment but it changes regularly.
Like most #wildlife carers, I'm on a pension and we get precious little help outside of donations and occasionally raising a grant to buy equipment.
So I got a message from a #mastodon #community #member who I'd exchanged a couple of toots with offering help. This was on #christmaseve. I don't really celebrate the season but I interact with people around me in a seasonally appropriate way.
So anyway, this morning I checked my bank and I almost fainted.
I'd like to reach out and say thank you to the person who made that donation. It will pay for feed supplements, formula which I was having the horrors over buying because of cost, and an outstanding vet bill.
So my uncelebrated christmas has been blessed in this hugely practical way, by someone within the #mastodon #community who I have never met. Thank you mate.
