changing inside, while outside
is calcified hate.
As the #monarch butterflies continue to develop, you begin to see the wings through the outer skin of the #chrysalis. When the chrysalis goes fully transparent and looks black, you can clearly see the orange patterning of the wings and know it is ready to emerge. Not too much longer for this one.

A pair of monarch caterpillars transitions into a chrysalis in another time lapse. Just over two hours down to 17 seconds.
13 of the 21 #monarch #caterpillars in this net are either “J-ing” or have already transitioned into a #chrysalis. Once they metamorphose into #butterflies, we will tag and release to join the great migration from #michigan down to Mexico for the winter.
Played around with a time-lapse of a monarch caterpillar we are rearing and was able to catch the transition into a chrysalis. I love watching these guys. We are rearing some we find to tag and release. Will be out with nets to tag wild monarchs in a few weeks as they start their migration.

My first #blackswallowtailbutterfly has hatched today! Seven more goth #butterflies to go if things go well.
All eight #blackswallowtailcaterpillar have turned into #chrysalis. What's interesting is some of them are green while others have changed into a mottled brown dead leaf color. They all seemed to be attracted to the same corner of the butterfly habitat.

Doing my part to increase the #monarch #butterfly zerg in my area. Got so many predators and cats in the area I keep a few in a butterfly habitat cage to grow up without harassment.
