«Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door» — песня Боба Дилана, написанная для саундтрека к фильму «Пэт Гэрретт и Билли Кид». Широкую известность «Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door» получила благодаря своим кавер-версиям. Одна из кавер-версий этой песни, исполненная немецкой группой Selig, является саундтреком к одноимённому фильму «Достучаться до небес» 1997 года, названному в честь песни Боба Дилана.

The Red House (1947)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_House_(film)

There's a red house, I get it.
These posters almost always have a couple embracing, I'm going to say as a nod to potential viewers that there was at least some romance/hint of sex in the movie. But so often there seems to be a consent issue. Is his face pressed up against hers because she likes him, or is this a kind of pushing boundaries thing?

Multiple images: a face lit dramatically from below with green light; a young woman's face looking pensive; a red house with trees around it; a man and woman, their faces almost touching; a woman in a revealing dress reclining on one elbow. I've been watching THE BITTER TEARS OF PETRA VON KANT (#Fassbinder, 1972).

So good.

It's essentially, at least thus far, like a one-room play, all claustrophobic, stifling, and intense. Wonderfully acted and shot (brilliant staging and framing), and an intense character study.

Wholesome Actresses: Nancy Olsen (born July 14, 1928) appeared in Sunset Boulevard (1950) as Betty Schaefer. Her experiences in making that film, and its insight into how Hollywood treated its actresses, convinced her that she didn’t want to become a star. She appeared in 20 movies, but her main focus in life was her relationship with her husband, Capitol Records executive Alan W. Livingston. Nancy’s nickname when younger was “Wholesome”.

Rumours are that Christopher Nolan is in talks to direct and write at least two James Bond films.

They will be Fleming book adaptations and set in the period they were written.

Spoilers: The famous gun barrel intro is to be reversed showing the bullet re-entering the gun.
The ending will show that the action of both films was a dream within a dream of Daniel Craig's Bond seconds before the finale of No Time To Die

I’m making good progress with my research into the murder of Hollywood movie director William Desmond Taylor. I have a good idea who did it, and will start featuring my research on my website, soon. The murderer was never found because basically three successive district attorneys ensured that the investigation would fail. The Taylor murder is a story of 1920s and 1930s cover-ups and corruption - justice was never on the agenda.

The Big Sleep (1946)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Sleep_(1946_film)

I have never loved Aimee Mann so much as when she sang “Carmen Sternwood probably pulled that trigger for fun” though is the “probably” even necessary?

This would be pretty dull except for the powerful colour they've washed it with.

Experiment Perilous (1944)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experiment_Perilous

Reversal Word-order-us!

There are nice painterly qualities here, not sure if they match the subject matter.
Wikipedia says the film has “A frenzied gun battle and fist fight in their home, featuring the destruction of several large aquariums” — not what I was expecting but OK.

I'm one of those rare birds who still likes to see movies at a cinema. Sure, the place I live at the moment has a huge TV and a very impressive set of speakers. But even if we watch movies at night with all the lights out, it's just not the same.

Anyway, I can't help but notice that almost every time I go, I'm one of a handful of people in a cinema with dozens or even hundreds of seats. This creates 2 problems for cinema as an industry.

I finally got around to watching Denis Villeneuve's 2016 film, ARRIVAL. The screenplay is based on a short story by Ted Chiang, and it feels a lot like an Arthur C. Clarke kind of story. In other words, there's something of the grand yet intimate classic science fiction stories of the golden age of scifi. A true "first contact" story with deep meaning, mystery, and socio-political questions. I feel it's a rather remarkable and excellent film.

Set in 1950s #Calcutta, #SatyajitRay's মহানগর [Mahanagar / The Big City] (1963) is a story of emancipation in a changing society. Arati (#MadhaviMukherjee) is a housewife from a traditionalist family, who – in order to support her relatives' lavish demands – goes out to work as a door-to-door saleswoman. I rewatched The Untouchables bc II picked up a brand new, still sealed #DVD for $1.50 weeks back.

The movie is often too corny for its own good, Kevin Costner is just one of the most boring actors of all time, and its weirdly pro-Prohibition.

However, almost every single shot is a visual treat, it is just gorgeously designed and photographed. Connery is a delight, De Niro too tho underused. They don't hold back their squibs. Solid way to pregame football.
