After a couple months of sitting in the rain with the passenger door unable to close I finally got the #Squareback wedged into the garage!

Now I can take the door off and start prepping it to weld a new hinge on.

It'll also be a lot easier to work on the #fuelInjection without having to deal with the weather!

I just need to get rid of some stuff to make some more room.

Well... this was an unexpected turn of events. Bad earth cable led to melted throttle cable, which stranded me within walking distance of home. Was quite exciting watching the big lifty truck thing in action.

They were also kind enough to send what I can only assume was their best looking driver-operator too, so that was nice.

Good news is the brake on this side doesn't actually need any remedial work. Bad news is I discovered an old repair had failed and was only visible when the weight of the car was resting on the axle instead of the jacking point.

In the UK, it's a classic if the community agree it's a classic. (but the community is often wrong ;) )

It can be registered as Historic (OldTimer) once it's 40 years old (no tax or MOT (TUV) test requirement).

Clubs say that veterans were built before 1905, and vintage if built between 1905 and 1930.

I've got to get out there and finish installing the fuel pump relay on my #VW #type3 😩

I just have no idea what to make of this mess of old fucked up wiring, and a mental block about #electrical in general.

I think this is the "Voltage Supply Relay" so one of the wires that runs off of it will go up front to the fuel pump relay. Then I just have to figure out which wire runs to the ECU.

I think I need an induction loop meter...

I got my new fuel pump relay for my #vw #squareback, now I just have to find the wires that some monkey cut off to bypass the old one. The diagram shows wires running to the pump, ECU, voltage regulator, and auxiliary air valve. I *think* I know where all those are, and I have a test light so I can tell if they have voltage.

Made my first parts order for the #vw #squareback yesterday; just a gas cap, front turn signal lenses and some rubber seals for the engine lid. I don't want to put gas in the tank to flush it until I have a cap so it doesn't evaporate. I suppose I could go ahead and take the plugs out to see if they need replaced but the wires look new so I'm hoping it gets fire when there's fuel to spray. If not, rebuilding the distributor shouldn't be a big deal. #classicCar #mechanic #car #aircooledvw #type3
