CLIFF PALACE (1)

Ancestral Puebloans built these sophisticated living and activity structures within massive geologic rock ledges, around 1100 CE - 1300 CE. They farmed the top of the mesa and climbed down to this living area using holes carved out of the rock, not needing to go to ground level hundreds of feet below.

This is the first of a continuing Thursday series...More pics and more surprising history. all will be in replies to this post.

A view across the front of a set of cliff dwellings of stone architecture. The color is light tan, bright in the sun. There are people in the foreground and in the distance to show that this is a large scale.

From left to right...
A large built rock wall, flat and very smooth with rocks placed carefully with mortar. It must be about 5 meters tall. Next there are stone outcroppings arising from the natural geology, but with additional square-shaped rock architecture built around them. These structures continue up in the middle view to more rounded structures topped by a natural wood ladder that leads up to a higher level in the shade, recessed deeper into the huge ledge onto which these structures are built. This is still less than half of the structures in the view. The others include a combination of rectangular structures rising three to four stories to the top of the geological ledge. These have rectangular windows and create large rooms sometimes connected.

Large, almost perfectly round structures, to be described more fully in future posts, make up much of the outer architecture. These are large enough to house family groups (hint).

All of this architecture is within the huge ledge, mostly sheltered from the sun and elements. There is a path used by tourists that runs across the front and viewers are able to stand on several separate flat areas created by the ancient builders. Some of the top of the huge ledge can be seen at the top right.

Today in Labor History September 21, 1896: The militia was sent to Leadville, Colorado, to bust a miners’ strike. Police and soldiers killed at least six miners during the 9-month strike. Leadville was a leading mining community during the latter half of the 19th century due to its rich silver deposits. At the time, Colorado’s statewide mining mortality rate was 6 deaths per thousand miners each year. So, just in Leadville, at least six miners were dying each year. The amazing mineral wealth of Colorado turned it into the nation’s main mining region, and contributed to of families like the Guggenheims. The Western Federation of Miners led the strike against mines, which were paying wages of less than $3/day. The union broke with the conservative American Federation of Labor after they lost the strike, and turned toward a more revolutionary socialism.

Some states — #Colorado, #Montana, #NewMexico, #Washington and #Wyoming — rolled back 50 percent or more of their progress since 2000. In #Oregon and #Nevada, wildfire smoke has completely erased their gains....

a single day of unhealthy smoke — in the “red” level on the federal government’s color-coded scale — gave the hospitals he was studying in central Oregon a 41 percent chance of exceeding their capacity....

University of Montana toxicologist Christopher Migliaccio tracked residents who lived through that smoke and found they showed significant decreased lung function one and two years afterward..."

We all agree that #LaurenBoebert giving her current boytoy a handjob during a performance of "Beetlejuice", with children seated literally behind her, while screeching that all queer people, but especially trans people, are "groomers", is the height of hypocrisy, right?

And that above and beyond everything else, she's a traitor and an asshole, right?

Okay.

So, how about doing something about it?

#Colorado #USPolitics #AdamFrisch

https://adamforcolorado.com/

Short twitter thread by Courtney Milan (timestamp 2:02pm Sep 17, 2023):

My feeling on the whole Boebert thing is that Adam Frisch has a solid chance of unseating her with our support, and I would rather talk about what he can do than what she did do.

Everyone already knows she's a liar and a hypocrite, this isn't going to change anyone's mind.

But we can change the seat and that's all I care about.

Here's Adam's site. He came inches from unseating Boebert in an off election cycle. He's talking about water and agriculture, and we need more Dems to step up on these urgent, climate-adjacent issues to help rural parts of the country.

(link cropped off, it's in my post)
End of Courtney Milan's twitter thread:

So here's my thing: if you have a chance to dunk on her, and there are many, don't forget to tell people about Adam Frisch.

She's the most beatable of the Treason Chucklefucks. Let's get her out.

And most of all: let's support Democrats in rural areas who are pitching solidarity from a deep knowledge of their area, and sending the message that climate mitigation is for everyone.

2/ Looking at the video clip above, the way #Boebert looks back at the pregnant woman who had complained about her vaping while Boebert is getting groped and doing groping is more disturbing than her lewd act in a crowded public theater because she was getting off at looking at the pregnant woman's discomfort at Boebert's behavior... I wrote this on the day the ballot initiative won…

I have ethical concerns about wolf introduction in #Colorado.

We live in a secluded valley backing up to wilderness with healthy herds of domestic and wild game animals.

Wolves are an apex predator. They will flourish and multiply here.

Sadly, then we will have to start hunting and killing wolves to control their numbers.

Where are the humane ethics in that? It seems to me that Wolf Introduction is merely ‘stocking’.
