I am incredibly stressed out since it has been two weeks now and I keep having trouble with my new #ThinkPad #X1 Carbon Gen 10.
I made the impulsive and definitely wrong decision of immediately removing #Windows and installing only @vanillaos.
There are several problems, that I cannot figure out if they are there because of #Linux #compatibility limits and absent #drivers, or rather if it is an hardware problem.
Above all, the webcam is not recognized. Like it does not even show up in /dev
Furthermore, the 2.8K screen has the PERFECT resolution for a 14" laptop, but it is OLED and it looks TERRIBLE. I hope it is only a calibration problem, but, again, I do not know how to test it…
Since #VanillaOS still has an outdated Linux #kernel, I installed #Manjaro, but upon opening #Cheese I always get “no device found”.
To increase my stress, my request to subscribe to linux.org got rejected since I signed up using a #VPN. I am losing it 😭

Wine 8.0 was released a few days back & indeed Wine 8.1 is already out now!
Wine 8.1 ups the default setting to "Windows 10" now (as new Wine prefixes are created).
Previously Wine defaulted on "Windows 7" (which is of course still there to choose) - the gaming itself happens 100% on Linux nevertheless :linux:
Valve (/w its Proton tech on Steam) highly utilize Wine to make more and more people say "BYE BYE, WINDOWS" 👋

One of the reason really neat integrated apps are hard is because every company wants to shoehorn their users into using their software for everything.
So, they all find ways to make using anything else unpleasant.
Maybe I'm extreme but this seem like it ought to be illegal.
For example, many transit apps have "trips" which could also be integrated with the calendar--- but, google and apple would probably rather try to make their own bad version of trips. #design #compatibility

I have a #T440p and a ideapag gaming with amd... and only have problems with the latter which has no #driver to regulate the brightness HW level, must regulate by adjusting the gamma value via script and same for the battery which has no fine control on the charge level as Thinkpad models have, i.e. start charging at 70% and stop at 75%. On the ideapad I can only manually set the charge to stop charging at 50% or 100% u.u

Just a quick post today confirming that you can actually take a Dell XPS 13 9310 (Evo) shipped with Windoze 11, and run a vanilla Ubuntu 22.04 on it with all peripherals working and no fuzz (well, some, if you do it the way I did).
