And public access to huge fruit collection at #Pometet (e.g. ~ 800 varieties of apples)
Dozens of cities around Europe mark European Car Free Day today, with mixed results, including in Berlin.
But critics say the German capital is lagging.
While many European cities, such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Paris are drastically reducing car traffic in their city centres in favour of cycle paths, Berlin is going in the opposite direction and becoming more car-friendly.
Spotify's Discover Weekly recommended me a Swedish song called “Fuck you, New York” by Riga Tiger.
I start listening to the song thinking "oh, this melody is pretty good".
After a minute or so I notice that the song isn't *actually* about New York, but rather about how #Copenhagen is full of junkies.
Damn you, Swedes, and your catchy Copenhagen diss tracks!
@jake4480 when I visited lisbon last year, I noticed left-wing #propaganda and symbols a lot more than anywhere else I'd been. I'd love to grow in that kind of culture. I saw pictures from streets and neighborhoods in the us that have been barricaded and harbor safe #communities. we have plenty of organizations here, some dating back decades like christiania in #copenhagen. are you part of some community from the places you've lived in?
Some changes for the life between buildings in Copenhagen.
As part of this plan, they also want to redesign the beloved Hans Tavsens Park in my old neighbourhood (NIMBYs of course disapprove).
Another trend (which isn't directly related to water management, but fairly complimentary) is the increasing presence of native "wild" flora in the green spots around the city, which has come about as a reaction to the biodiversity crisis.

Copenhagen's far-reaching transformation into a "Sponge City".
As the climate warms, Copenhagen is likely to see more torrential rain storms like the one that inundated the city in 2011. Since then, the Danish capital has taken action, redesigning parks and streets to quickly drain away vast amounts of water.
A Saturday reminder, if you're interested in doing a #PhD in #GreenlandIceSheet melt and other #ice processes: involving #ML techniques, #ClimateModelling and on-site #glaciology, have a look at our open position announcement. Deadline 5th October!
Come and join us in #Copenhagen...
Taking kid and 4 friends for birthday treat today. Half the other parents have cars but I'm taking them on the bus (hard to fit 5 kids in a normal car legally even if I wanted to). It will take maybe 15 mins longer than driving. We're lucky to live in a city with good public transport but even so it wasn't my first choice, in spite of never owning a car, maybe because I grew up with cars as first option? Normalising this stuff is hard even in #Copenhagen.
Travelling. Fourth stop: Copenhagen.
I liked it a lot. Great culture - both classical and counter and of course, easy to get around on a bike.
Cab driver told me: "in some countries they have ISIS or Al Qaeda, in Copenhagen we have cyclists."

DSB played a blinder today: #Aalborg to #Copenhagen completely on time all the way, everyone had seats, ticket system worked, I got loads of work done, they even opened the little shop for drinks and snacks.
Bravo #DSB 👏
Yesterday, I had a discussion with German who told me how efficient all trains were in England compared to Germany. 😳 I told him I had exactly opposite experience☺️ so maybe we should document successes as well as failures.? If indeed we want people to take the train more?
It's a while since I've done an #Introductions #ConnectionList #TwitterMigration post, where I use my large reach to more richly connect the #Fediverse :fediverse: by finding interesting accounts you may wish to follow.
That's all for today, please do share great people to follow, so we can curate our wonderful communities here ❤️
Trying to plan work trip to #Bergen for meeting and not for the first time, I'm left wondering why exactly the train connection between major Scandinavian cities is so awful ..?
Last night, I packed our cargo bike with my telescope and some blankets for a solo cargo bike adventure.
I went out in the middle of an open field to check out Saturn and Jupiter. It was my first time viewing planets in a telescope. Saturn in particular (with the ring going around it) was such a special experience.
I got a collapsible telescope since it the best size to bring on the cargo bike (to escape light pollution).
Beautiful Nyhavn Canal in Copenhagen
Glædelig mandag. Just sending you a postcard from #Copenhagen, just to say that I hope this week treats you well.
Other European cities are also getting #climate #revamps.
#Copenhagen, vulnerable to sea-level rise, has rolled out an ambitious flood adaptation management plan after being hit by record-breaking rainfall in 2011.
#Barcelona's climate plan aims to increase solar power and green spaces, sometimes by revamping whole neighborhoods.
Many cities have not forgotten the punishing heat wave of 2003, when an estimated 70,000 people died in Europe, including 15,000 in France
