What a great shot from last night's (my time) cricket match in London showing the athleticism of Australian cricket player Travis Head.

When you watch the TV coverage, the high camera angle from front-on doesn't really show just how high the batters leap when taking on head-high, short-pitched deliveries. At the top right of the picture you can see the red leather ball with its lighter seam which has just flown past Travis Head at a speed of somewhere around 140 km/h (87 mph). #cricket #sport #ICCWTC #AUSvIND #photography #SportsPhotography #TravisHead #Australia #India

#OnThisDay in 1937, Australia women began their Ashes tour with a trip to the Netherlands.

Alice Wegemund and Nell McLarty arrived just in time to take part in the match. They missed their train in London owing to being caught in a traffic jam. They boarded a later boat, but a Rotterdam taxi driver took them to the wrong train. Ignorance of the Dutch language brought further complications and they arrived at 2pm after having travelled in three Dutch trains, foodless since the previous day.

Hospitality has been showered on the team, who have taken up cycling. The captain, Margaret Peden, arrived at the match on a bicycle.

The Dutch team played in cream flannel trousers.

#OnThisDay in 2010, Deandra Dottin became the first woman to score a T20 hundred.

Her 112* off 45 (7x4,9x6) for West Indies vs South Africa remains one of the most extraordinary innings played in the format.

West Indies were 52/4 when Dottin came in to bat.

Her first ball faced was 9.5, and she brought up her hundred on ball 18.1.

This remains the 2nd fastest women's T20 hundred, and the only T20 century by a woman batting at #6 or lower.

As I've moved to a new instance, it's time for another #introduction - and whereas writing the first one felt deeply uncomfortable, this time it seems a lot easier. That's the transition from Twitter-brain to Mastodon-brain.

Who I am is more or less this: I'm an #autistic #Welsh person who lives in beautiful #Tynedale, and I spend my working time fiddling about with emergency #healthcare #data to improve care quality in the #NHS. I have issues with #anxiety and #loneliness, and I'm an abuse survivor. Because of the past abuse, I keep myself anonymous all over the internet; however, I've been using the Rollo Treadway alias for so long that it feels like part of me, my alter ego. So feel free to call me Rollo.

And I'm okay with they/them pronouns (because I don't really feel I fit within any gender identity) and also he/him (because that's what everyone offline has always used for me). Or frankly, any other pronouns, it's all good.

I migrated to #Mastodon from #Twitter during 2022 (initially at the start of the year, but properly in the autumn) and am very happy here.

Politically, I'm a #HandwringingLeftyLiberal, and like my bio says, I really don't have any time for Tories. This includes any close equivalents to Tories in other countries.

I love #trees and #woodland, I like to go #walking when I feel physically/mentally able, I'm fascinated by #birds but am hopeless at identifying them. I am *very* serious about #tea, I am (obviously) devoted to #SilentCinema, I'm unhealthily focused on #cricket (mostly #FirstClassCricket, #TestCricket and #CountyCricket, the white ball stuff isn't really for me), and especially #Durham in the #CountyChampionship. And in #football, I support #Gateshead.

Finally, I promise this is the last time I will do such a long post, and the last time I will put hashtags in the middle of the post rather than all at the beginning or end. I think hashtags in the middle is permitted for an introduction, or I hope so anyhow.

HELLO!
