The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) has suffered a cyberattack that resulted in the exfiltration of a database containing a list of online users. ETSI, based in France, is a recognized regional standards body for telecommunications and electronic communications networks and services. The attack affected the ETSI portal and IT system dedicated to its members' work. The organization has worked to fix the vulnerability that led to the breach and is collaborating with the French National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) on the investigation. ETSI has asked online service users to change their passwords and reported the incident to the French data protection authority (CNIL) as required by GDPR.

I once suffered an #intrusion while trying #kdeconnect 's remote input feature on a friend's old mac with ubuntu on it and my #android. the pointer moved around on my phone and clicked on buttons without us controlling it. there is somewhere these attacks come from. years ago I sent an andoid #app to a friend over #telegram, the app was meant to send an image to microsoft to generate a text caption. I had all images taken in the app sent to my email without the user's knowledge. Explicit risk calculation is only a few centuries old, originally by invented gamers and co-opted by insurance. Experts in their area, either way.

Humans are instinctively fantastic at experimentation & adaptation but not slow, laborious quantification — especially when we’re getting paid to deliver software shinies, not calculate “risk.”

So, why do we ask devs to calculate “#cyber #risk”? Shouldn’t we be designing ways to remove or reduce the relevant hazards? Miss me with the “it’s too hard”

Last night, on the "professional" site, I saw a post from a CEO of a #cybersecurity company asking who's going to #blackhat2023 and to look him up when people got there. Fine. Great.

First reply out the gate was from a CISO of another company that said nope, not interested, no reason to ever go.
I was gonna let it go until this morning I open that site again and the first post on my feed is from a CISO of another company with the first line saying "PSA I will not be attending BlackHat". Followed by a long post explaining why. Basically saying his is a smaller company and the conference doesn't align with his needs.

As someone struggling to get into #cyber, of all the advice I read and hear, #networking is ALWAYS on that list. I'm hyper-aware of this because this is the step I dread/fear the most. But I would love to check out some conferences in person. Seems like you can always find something to get into.

Isn't #BlackHat one of the "big ones"? Good place to #network no? If you are not going, for whatever reason, why proactively post about and discourage others from going? Especially if you are a #CEO , #CISO or any other management acronym.

Granted, it was only 2 posts, and the CEO and CISO's I'm referring to above could be the head of their start-up working out of their mom's garage. I don't know. Didn't vet their company.

So I just realized I never did an #introduction. I didn’t know that it was a thing until I just saw a few in a row.

Hi, I’m Blake. Or beezy. Or sometimes beexzee. Also thelinuxfraud because I run a tiny little YouTube channel called The Linux Fraud. I started the channel in hopes to add a little spice in the #Linux #YouTube community and have a channel about Linux/tech but also not take it *so* damn seriously. Hence the “fraud” in the name.

I quickly realized that making a channel solely about Linux is pretty fucking niche so I’ve started to pivot to some broader topics including #privacy, #security and just #tech in general. I got into Linux because I wanted to break into the #infosec / #cyber space but I quickly realized there is a lot more people out there that are a lot more smarterer than I am. Still a passion of mine though. I’m a creative at heart; I love #photography and #film. Old gritty #westerns are awesome, The Godfather is a *chefs kiss* on my eyeballs and ear canals.

I’m internally torn between loving and wanting to support the FOSS community and realizing that that new #macbookpro is sexy as hell and proprietary software is still useful in certain situations. I guess that’s why I’m The Linux Fraud 🤷‍♂️

I can be sarcastic and have a dry sense of humor but in all seriousness I am so happy I found out about #Mastodon because I’ve had nothing but great interactions with everyone on here. Infosec.exchange seems like a great instance so far and I’m happy to be apart of it 🙌
