Female Kingfisher:

A small, brightly coloured, bird is perched on a moss covered stick, which curves over a pond, in front of a reed bed. The bird has a bright orange underside, feet, patch behind it's eye and lower bill (which is how you can tell it's female). The rest of it is mostly an electric blue colour with white speckles on it's head and wings and a white flash across it's neck. It is holding a small fish in it's beak.
Close up of a Robin:

A profile view of a bird with chestnut brown head and wings, bright red breast and throat and grey fringes separating the red and brown areas. It has a dark black eye and a black small, pointed beak
Jay:

A large bird stands on a wooden fence rail, it has pale pink plumage, a black tail and white rump. Its head has a pale crown with black streaks, and black facial markings and bill. Its wings are black and white with a panel of distinctive electric-blue feathers. It is holding a peanut in it's beak
Grey Squirrel:

A squirrel sits on it's haunches on an old wooden fence post, in front of bushes and trees. It is mostly a silvery grey colour, with white belly, reddish brown head and face with a big bushy tail which is a mixture of all three colours. It's front paws are held together in front of it.

@yellowspanner You're absolutely right. There is so much industrial heritage, often world-class, that is just left to ruin.

The 'professionals' don't get enough public scrutiny, so they get complacent and lazy. It's 'amateurs' like me and countless others that are keeping these places in the public consciousness.

I don't know if there is a Welsh website for industrial sites like this to be highlighted, but we could sure do with one.

Autumnal Colours:

A path leads through deciduous trees. Those closest to the camera are mostly bare of leaves but covered in lush Ivy. Further on a few of the trees still have full canopies of small leaves which have turned a bright golden colour

Blue Tit:

A small bird stands on a thin branch, it's claws grasping the wood tightly. it's body is mainly bright yellow, with a thin black line up the centre of it's belly. It's wings are mostly green and blue with a small white bar. It's head is turned to one side as it looks up towards the sky. Welsh wanting to promote use of place names in the vernacular in #Cymru really hits a nerve with monoglot Daily Mail commentards who struggle with English.

There's also the odd Dic Siรดn Dafydd in there to prop them up. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12767439/National-park-officials-vote-refer-names-200-lakes-waterfalls-Welsh-only.html

Pipeline of Cwm Dyli hydro plant, fed by Llyn Llydaw below the summit of Yr Wyddfa.

Built in 1905, it was meant to supply a nearby railway but this fell into disarray. The plant went on to feed a north Wales AC grid, one of the first of its kind, that supplied slate quarries and, from 1914, the giant Marconi 'Carnarvon' trans-oceanic wireless station.

Old photo shows steam (coal-powered) cable winder on the high ground directly above the turbine house.

Plenty to examine and think about and cast mind back to how it was to live and work here, perhaps around the 18th century.

Weather after the passage of Storm Debi was lovely in the mountains, even if the wind resulted in water going straight up in a stream into the sky, not down the falls!

The house, probably a hafod (it had no fireplace) and thus for summer pastoral use, has no known name; working on this.

#today was special. About 45mins drive from home we visited one of the oldest living things on the planet. I fear for its future, but itโ€™s survived Bronze & Iron Age settlers, Roman legionaries, Christian iconoclasts & modern developers. Cymru-Wales has the largest no. of ancient yews in the world & this yew in Llangernyw is the oldest in Wales, prob. all Europe & thought to be over 4000 yrs old.
