Good new piece from Tech Policy Review arguing that #AI regulation should build on frameworks for social media regulation. Instead of inventing the wheel anew.
The piece focuses on the US context - so it's worth to translate these ideas into European context, where connections are increasingly made between #AIAct and the #DSA. Ideas about platform responsibility and regulation, especially around systemic risks, can be translated into the #AI debate (and this is actually happening).
This, by the way, is an interesting case of policymakers being quite agile. Regulation is criticised for being too slow - here there's a chance for quite an adaptive approach.

Twitter has abandoned the EU's code of practice on disinformation, Thierry Breton said late Friday, but Europe's internal markets commissioner insisted that "obligations remain" for the social networking giant.

one thing I have omitted when talking about old #dsa adventures are the double titles all of them have.
Well, nearly all of them, until around '88? So around 2nd ed.
These were an affectation that came with the Droemer-Knaur publishing house co-producing them.
They were supposed to evoke some classic 19th ct. literary sentiment.
So the actual title of B2 was Der "Wald ohne Wiederkehr oder Murgol der Magier der Nacht" (The Forest of No Return or Murgol the Mage of Night)

The latter is a bit of a strange bird, as it's completely unplayable nowadays. It was a promo-scenario that was supposed to be played as a scenario on some convention in '84.
And it needed external hints that were spread over the building it was played in, but which are lost to time.
This would all be OK, if there was an explanation of what this was in the book. There isn't.
I found that info on the #dsa wiki.
I mean, it's a cute curiosity, but it's kinda useless.
Now because I am a bit of a nerd and was taken by nostalgia looking through old #dsa modules I actually sprung for the Kaiser-Retro-Box from 2018.
This is a reissue/reprint of the first starter set of Das Schwarze Auge, as well as the contents of both "Werkzeuge des Meisters" sets from 1984, and a few extras.
It clocks in at an impressive 416 pages, and is filled to the brim with reproductions of earlier material.
Kinda useless, but hey, nostalgia.

The DSA (art. 3(w)) defines 'commercial communication' by referring to the eCommerce Directive.
But many DSA provisions concern 'advertising'. I didn't spot a definition of 'advertising'.
- Is 'advertising' defined anywhere?
- Should we see 'commercial communication' and 'advertising' as synonyms?
- More generally: do I miss something?
