Maybe there is a reason it works like this, but hoo boy is the coordinate system in #DaVinciResolve nutty.
Here's the explanation I found on their forum:
“… dead centre of the Timeline Viewer canvas has the co-ordinate [0,0], that's easy enough … but beyond that, the position value for any given source element (regardless of its resolution) represents the offset of its centre expressed in terms relative to the canvas resolution, but not absolute to the canvas resolution.

Oh my gourd, I am such an idiot. I am doing a multi screen projection in #Fusion, as one big comp. This of course is taxing the memory limits of my GPUs. It's turned into a bit of a nightmare. Every. Single. Night. My. Render. Was. Failing. So I broke it down into smaller units, attempted pre-render everything, and still every morning I was coming and finding that #DavinciResolve had crashed. Absolutely nothing worked, even the simplest pre-render would die. I have been pulling my hair out trying to get this stupid thing to render.
Then today I noticed that my USB license dongle is plugged into my monitor. Yes, so? Well, what do I do every night after I've started the render, turned widdershins thrice and drawn a chalk circle around the computer? To save the polars and keep Greta Thunberg happy, I switch off my monitors, don't I? The monitors with the license dongle in them. That dongle that resolve checks for every few minutes. Resolve wasn't crashing, it was just checking for the dongle which was hanging uselessly from the switched-off monitor and quitting.
This youtube video was created in an editing software like #DaVinciResolve which as developed in 2004 for #Windows, #Linux and #MacOS. The #90s aesthetic composed of intentionnaly blurry footage adds a welcoming dose of total immersion. However, I yearned for a longer #tutorial! It ended too quickly, I really need to know more techniques on how to #harass people online! This video reminded me of my childhood memory when I fell of my bike, broke both ankles but thanks to that were allowed to play games on my computer 24/7. Such great times. Welp, looks like I'll be thinking of new ways to step up my #commenting game in my sleep tonight! (art)

Currently in the process of learning #DaVinciResolve and managed to create my vacation video (the added challenge was working with Qoocam EGO 3D footage and properly displaying stereoscopic photo's and 2D as well).
One thing that baffles me is how project management works. Using the Media Manager I can trim the source material, but it leaves out two segments from the same clip. Not reliable!
And doing a project export with the media files doesn't relink the files when importing the project.
Side note: Does anyone that works with #DavinciResolve know how to work with #MGJSON? Or better yet, what's the easiest way to take a json file with a set of values, and use that for driving controls in a project... (Probably layers in Fusion, honestly)
...or barring that, #Natron. Because I can always animate an overlay and composite that in.
After being generally unhappy with the #DavinciResolve output quality, I've decided to experiment outputting as a ludicrously oversized DNxHR file and transcoding with Handbrake, and comparing to the quality of a default H264 file output (looks like Handbrake doesn't do AV1 (yet?)
#DaVinciResolve render was going to take the better part of the day to finish, so I took the time to set up network rendering. My living room VR machine has a generation older video card and several generations older CPU, but it rendered the project in a little over an hour.

On Thursday, I downloaded the free version of DaVinci Resolve - video editing software.
Really liking it so far!
I'd seen descriptions of it which were like "this is very complicated, you might want a simpler one". But to me, it really didn't seem any different in that respect from PowerDirector, the one I'd been using before (and had paid money for). Thinking I'll probably stick with it for future video-editing tasks.

I probably should buy #DaVinciResolve to process my #3D footage, but all I want is to make one vacation home video. So that's a but overkill.
I've got footage from my #Qoocam #EGO3D and I can process that just fine. The challenge is in inserting 2D content which needs to be duplicated.
I think I should be able to duplicate 2D video/photos and position them correctly with Fusion without adding duplicate clips on my timeline.

Added a 2TB #KingstonTech #SSD to my production rig and set it as my scratch disk for #DaVinciResolve ... all this time I've been using my default C: drive. I can't get over how much faster a dedicated Kingston drive is! Creating these same optimized media files used to take almost 2 hours! Now, it might take 25-30 minutes. Back to editing!!

Latest Olive Video Editor release is rock solid for me! Also tons of bugs are gone!
If you want to edit video on Linux or using free and open-source software - try Olive. It has an excellent suite of editing tools that beat everything else I have tried including the big names. Also multiple audio tracks. This rocks.
It is the only(!) FOSS NLE that uses GPU for all image processing!

@tosista thank you. I’m using #davinciresolve myself, it's really great. The question was more for a relative of mine, where I think Resolve would be a bit overkill. Something with more pre-defined effects and a larger media library, to avoid having to use Fusion. I saw Wondershare #Filmora which goes in the right direction, but I really dislike that they try to upsell to a subscription for the effect library after the purchase and it's really annoying in the UI.
@defaultvlan I would suggest #davinciresolve , definitely. it's not as accessible as iMovie, but it's free and totally worth learning. also scalable when you'll get experience. start from the Cut page, and enjoy it

I've set up a "davincibox" repository to build a container with the needed packages for installing and running Resolve on an image-based distro (i.e. Silverblue, Kinoite, etc) from distrobox (or toolbox).

We're working on Shorts, but my editor uses davinchi. Obvious backup is make the video, put in shorts editor, then put text, but it's a bit cumbersome.
Mobile is still a pretty bad way to create almost anything that is not a photo or unedited video recording

I used to use a perhaps less paid for than Adobe would have liked version of Premiere Pro but decided to go legal (but still not pay big money for hobby editing) a few years back and started using #Kdenlive instead. It had a few limitations but did well enough for me, but the most recent versions report false errors all the time with missing frames I can't be bothered to sort out so I've downloaded and played around with #DaVinciResolve today and have to say I'm very impressed with it.
I really wish I knew someone I could send bug reports to at #Apple for #FinalCutPro. I seem to regularly find bugs that aren't seemingly that common... but always screw up my productivity.
Luckily, I only now use FCP for one video a week, as our studio has transitioned to #DaVinciResolve for everything else.
After reflecting on my recent #learning experiences with Fusion and #blender simulation nodes, I realized that I don't like video tutorials anymore. While helpful for new topics, it gets cumbersome for specific answers compared to #documentation or experimentation.

This. I work in film-making and animation and I'm always hacking away in#VSCode.
In the Adobe #AfterEffects user community a good deal of the discussion is about #JavaScript, because that's the language it uses for automation. Similarly for #Blender, a working knowledge of #python is really helpful, #DaVinciResolve uses #Lua and of course there are command line tools like #ffmpeg and #ImageMagick that means having shell scripting skills becomes a superpower.

So it turns out that if you shift+scroll to decrease the height of the tracks in the UI, at some point, it stops giving you the little fader thing that you can grab with your cursor.

I'm having a peculiar issue with DaVinci Resolve 18 that I'm hoping someone might have a fix for.
So the little fade in/out tabs on the corners of tracks when you put your cursor over them? Part way through working on this video, they stopped showing up for all of my video tracks (even though I had already used it to fade in the blue video track).
In the first pic, you can see that I can still get it to show on the green audio track, but in the second pic (that I took with the cursor over the video track), you can see that it hasn't appeared.
Did I turn on/off some setting by mistake using keyboard shortcuts of something? What's going on?

The tutorials you find online for #davinciresolve are the reason why I will most probably never go back to Final Cut.
Something very weird happening to me in #davinciresolve … I have this track with music exported from LogicPro which plays a loop 4 minutes long, the wave shows so in DaVinci, but it only plays 16 bars from the track, for whatever weird reason…. The sound stops where the red/play bar is, for whatever weird reason.

Changing video editing software a few days before the planned publication of the work from it is probably not the best idea. But #Kdenlive does not take it out and often crashes even when working with one footage for a couple of tens of seconds, so I took #DaVinciResolve and try to get used to it in an accelerated mode. At least it does not crash, which is already good. But for some reason he can not do in MP4, forcing me to convert all the sources, which now they do not fit on the drive.
I just installed #DavinciResolve for the first time ever (v18.5β) and … hot damn, I see a lot of cool stuff in there!
But now I think I better understand how much of a different path #CapCut took: way simpler tools but shinier transitions and effects and stickers etc OOTB. More IG and TikTok, less Netflix, basically. Can't say I hate that, really.
I'll need to make a few more tutorials, that should help me get a better feel for these tools.
Alright, anyone using #DavinciResolve, does it keep a local cache of added media? When I add media to the pool for a project, can I just delete whatever original file I put in?
Typically I would assume it does NOT copy it, but, I keep seeing hints that maybe it can. Or maybe you can make it.
The end goal here is the ability to archive my projects AND all the requisite media, but to do that, I need to know what stuff is baked in and what stuff isn't.

Using a Fedora 37 toolbox, copying launchers and icons, and updating everything to be container-friendly, you can get DaVinci Resolve up and running!
I haven't tested any editing, but successfully launching the app gives me hope.

Would be a huge step for #accessibility if we could auto generate #closedcaptioning by default, quickly, easily, and cheaply, rather than reserving budget for the rarer cases where transcription and subtitles are expressly requested or required.

What's new in #DaVinciResolve 18.1? Two features that sound pretty sweet: AI voice isolation, and auto volume leveling.

I tried editing on DaVinci Resolve for iPad on a train this morning, and it was actually pretty good for preparing a base cut of a video. I am starting to like the Cut page, too (I’ve only used Edit page before).
You probably need a keyboard for finer controls with the current version, but, hopefully, iPad specific UI will added and solve those in the near future.

スマホをBluetoothキーボードとして使えるようにするアプリを使えば、物理キーボードがなくてもDaVinci Resolve for iPadでEditやDeliverページを表示させられるらしい
Davinci Resolve for iPadでEditやDeliverページを表示（アンロック？）する方法が発見されて、試したら本当にできる
キーボードがないとできないっぽいけど、⌘ + ⌥ + Kでショートカット設定メニューを出して、右側のパネルで一番下に「Show Page」というセクションがあるので、そこで各ページにショートカットを設定すると表示できるようになる
各ページの機能はまだ試してないけど、表示されるだけでも「うぉ〜」ってなる
隠れてるのはテストが済んでないから？iPadへの最適化・テストが終わったら標準で表示されるようになるんだろうなぁ

iPad版#DaVinciResolve では、まだApple Pencilのホバーに対応してない部分が多いみたい。一部対応してる？
#DaVinciResolve はCutページよりもEditページが好きな方が圧倒的に多そうだな。初期のラフカット編集にはCutページはちょっぱやで良いという意見も見かけるけど

#DavinciResolve デスクトップ版の方でプロジェクト毎にPath MappingをSSDに設定しておくと、iPad版でSSDのプロジェクトライブラリを開いたときにちゃんとマッピングしてくれる
この設定は癖にしておくと良さそう
ちなみに、このPath Mappingはプロジェクト毎に設定しないとダメみたいで、ライブラリで一括で設定みたいなことはできないっぽい（あったら嬉しい、教えて欲しい
