Folk are dying at record numbers, of comorbidities of severe acute covid that are also implicated as post-acute sequelae of covid infection. ↺

Of course, ongoing hospital staffing attrition also contributes to elevated death tolls. Said attrition continues. ↺

[CDC ended excess death reporting Sep 27.]

#ThisIsOurPolio #LongCovidKills #LongCovid #CovidIsNotOver #hospitals #nurses #HeartDisease #Diabetes #Alzheimers #Dementia #Sepsis #Cancer #Covid19 #DeathCult

Chart: Elevated Circulatory Causes of Death: Annualized Deviation from 2015-2019 Average
Data: Centers for Disease Control, U.S. Census Bureau. Reflects death certs that do not identify covid as underlying cause.

[ beadsland on Ko-fi ]

Dashed lines for annual data for years 2015 (as of January 1, 2016) through 2020, with solid dots for annualized data weekly from January 2021 through late July 2023. [Six weeks of subsequent CDC data incomplete, thus omitted from this chart.] Dotted lines indicate trendlines from Jan 2020 forward, for each disease category.

Legend:

• Hypertensive disease (+31K more annualized deaths vs. 2019)
• Cerebrovascular diseases (+13K)
• Heart failure (+4K)
• Ischemic heart disease (-3K)
• Other diseases of the circulatory system (+7K)
• Projected U.S. population

Caption:

Heart failure mortality stands out as having declined during the pandemic, remaining well below historical trendline to this day.

Ischemic heart disease deaths increased during the first year, but have been more or less declining toward baseline since then. (Notably, ischemic heart disease is the only subgroup to have been on a downward trajectory pre-pandemic.)

Hypertensive, cerebrovascular, and other diseases of the circulatory system, though each seeing declining annualized mortality in recent months, each remain well above their respective historical trendlines.
Chart: Elevated Non-Circulatory Causes of Death: Annualized Dev. from 2015-2019
Avg Data: CDC, Census. Reflects death certs that do not identify covid as underlying cause.

[ beadsland on Ko-fi ]

Dashed lines 2015–20; solid dots for annualized Jan 2021–June 2023. [Six weeks incomplete data omitted.] Dotted lines for trends from Jan 2020 forward, for each disease category. Dash-dot line for sepsis trend had concerted effort at reduction in 2019 not occurred.

Legend:

• Diabetes (+10K more annualized deaths vs. 2019)
• Alzheimers and dementia (+18K)
• Renal failure (+5K)
• Sepsis (+4K)
• Malignant neoplasms (+14K)
• Projected U.S. 65+ population

Caption:

After spiking in first year of the pandemic, annualized Alzheimer disease and dementia mortality dropped just as swiftly, thereafter remaining near or below historical trend.

Diabetes mortality has not been so quick to recover from first year spike, only beginning to decline in the second half of last year, though still well above pre-pandemic trend.

Deaths by sepsis were markedly down in 2019, following a coordinated national effort by hospitals. Despite this, sepsis mortality has been climbing at a rate well above even pre-2019’s relatively flat trendline, for over three years now.

Renal failure deaths didn’t see an appreciable climb until the latter part of 2021, peaking only months ago. Meanwhile, malignant neoplasm (cancer) deaths, slower to manifest, have been suggestively creeping above trend for well over a year.

Okay, here's a challenge for the bakers on here:

I want to make a flat, crispy bread, with whole, cooked, possibly sprouted grains (wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat). I want as little flour as possible in the dough, just enough to hold it together. I have a strong rye sourdough.
The purpose is to have a crisp bread that would work well for a diabetic. Hence the whole grains. Also oil free, of course.
Any thoughts, #Fedicooks #cooks #bakers #bread #vegan #diabetes #EllieKPosts

New sensor day, and so far day 1 is annoying junk. It didn’t bleed or anything. It’s occasionally giving valid readings, but is otherwise mostly reading low, all the way down to urgent low alerting.

Going to give it a day to settle. Unless it keeps alarming with fake urgent lows.

And yeah, verified with finger sticks.

What really sucks is this will skew my trends.

Never a good start to the day when your slow acting insulin decides it will not be slow, and drops your blood sugar to 2 in ten minutes flat.
It is a good job I had not gone for my morning walk straight away as I’d be collapsed somewhere in Castle Meadows now.
All good now, but it will mess up my levels all day I bet.
Rare, but it has happened a couple of times before. My diabetic clinic did not seem to know of it being a thing. Anyone else had this? Ordinary glargine insulin.

This sounds workable.

Need to find a good yogurt base. Found a few smaller servings I like.

I have a good ice cream.

I'm less worried about fruit given the fiber.

Good news was 3 months after #diabetes Dx last year, I pulled A1c down to non diabetic levels, and have kept it in the green for a whole year. So no longer technically diabetic, but the lower carb / sugar has become a maintenance thing.

Need some new low carb, low sugar breakfast ideas. Getting tired of: eggs, meat, cheese, peanut butter.

I'm not currently too worried about fat, just keeping down simple carb and added sugar.

I'm pretty omnivorous and like most veg. I'm just not being creative enough for additional "fast" "tasty" breakfast options.

Thoughts?

Could Insulin injections one day be replaced with rock music − new research in mice shows promise

Queen’s “We Will Rock You," among others, was able to trigger insulin release in new research looking into new ways to deliver insulin more easily. It still has a long way to go, but this new system may one day replace the insulin injection with a dose of rock ’n’ roll.

Einige Erkenntnisse im 🧵

Weltdiabetestag

I feel awful.

I woke up having a hypo this morning and I don't know if I still feel gross after that, if I'm getting sick, if it's a fibro flare, or if my body is just overreacting to the sudden change in temperature.

But I feel exhausted, I have such a headache, and my pain is like a 7/10, and I can feel my brain moving slow like molasses.

COVID-19 may be worse for those with uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes.

People who have uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes before getting COVID-19 may be at higher risk of hospitalization or being placed on a ventilator, according to new research that also shows an increased risk of death if diabetes isn't kept in check.

So I'm a type 2 diabetic and take metformin. Downside - magnesium deficiency manifesting itself as anxiety, brain fog, fatigue, depression. I was already taking magnesium citrate before bed (that took care of the anxiety) and only recently started taking some during the day, which took care of that brain fuzziness and fatigue to a noticeable degree.

So if you take metformin, have your magnesium levels checked.

But here, as well as in most counties across the United States, those types of deaths are far outnumbered by deaths caused by cardiovascular disease, diabetes, smoking-related cancers and other health issues for residents between 35 and 64 years old, The Post found. Between 2015 and 2019, nearly five times as many Ashtabula residents in their prime died of chronic medical conditions as died of overdoses, suicide and all other external causes combined, according to The Post analysis of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s death records.

#diabetes, WHAT COULD GO WRONG?!?

Well I suffered another #concussion this last weekend, I already suffer from #MCS multiple concussion syndrome so my recovery is going to be slow. To day was the first day I made it to a class, now I'm back in bed and wiped out.
I also have the following conditions: type 1
#diabetes #chronic #migraines #celiacdisease #lactosentolerant #dislocated #tailbone, right #shoulder and #knee. So it's sometimes hard to get to classes and do the work needed, thankfully the school is very understanding and helpful keeping me caught up.
Plus the other girls on my floor of the
#dorm are all helping me out, every day this week one of them has brought me a dinner from the cafeteria. And Suse has given me lots of massages 🥰

@georgetakei Even walking barefoot on wet sand at the beach if your foot has a little cut can expose you to #Vibrio, and anyone with #diabetes, #liverdisease, or other #immunocompromised circumstances is at even greater risk of this horrible disease.
