Ooh, much later, and exhausted by asyncio, we might not be too far off handling client disconnects during long-lived request processing in Django 5.0.
Absolutely awesome First PR from Dennis Chukwunta, @Th3nn3ss on GitHub! 🤩
Are there any other #django packages like Rosetta that deal with .po translations but with a better architecture? I'd rather not rewrite a view from scratch because the developer forgot to think that we might want to check messages *before* they're written to file.
We at Red Queen Dynamics have an opening for a #Django/#Python web application #developer (full time, contract, 100% #remote/flexible, emphasis on front end and SaaS applications). https://rqdn.io/web-application-developer. Reports directly to me, and you get to work with a great and fun team! Either respond to the JD as requested in the URL or email me at tarah@rqdn.io with the 18th and 34th post-decimal digits of #pi as the first two characters in the subject line and I'll review your resume/#Github first 😉

I’ve been running Huey in a test environment mirroring production traffic for a month.
Six periodic jobs and roughly 500-700k tasks per day. Not a single issue.
Early next week it’ll be promoted or production.
I think it’s safe to say that Huey will be my goto task queue if cron or a long running job spawning a few tasks won’t do the trick. #python #django

A cool but taxing thing about not using #FastAPI, #Django, or #Flask and building your own #framework for #Python (lovingly tabbed #JenkWorx ATM) is working with os.environ and sys.stdin
Everything from requested form info to cookies and signature headers lie in there. It's not hard, but almost every Google response to my query was "Just use Flask.. it's easier than writing your own".. No shit #StackOverflow guy - but easy was never the point! 😂

`TrigramSimilarity` in #django is pretty rad, but I wonder if enough people know about it?
https://old.reddit.com/r/django/comments/11ul1er/what_is_the_best_way_to_match_partial_words_while/ has a lot of other random solutions which seem a lot more complicated (unless you aren't using #postgresql, I suppose).
https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/4.1/ref/contrib/postgres/search/#trigram-similarity gives a short example, but I maybe a longer article would be useful?

My favorite #Django libraries right now are:
django-lifecycle
django-simple-history
django-widget-tweaks
django-relatives (this is mine)
django-admin-sortable
I'm taking for granted DRF, django-debug-toolbar, and many other small I'm using but I can't remember exactly what they're doing until I remove them!
I want to hear about your favorite #Django libraries. 🦄💼
Any you think should be better known? Or ones you find yourself using often? Even niche ones you just really enjoy.

It's time to dip my toes back into the job pool if I want the privilege of finding the right forever-gig and not be forced to take something less good to survive. I have a lead on one role that might be okay, but having some other options would be ideal.
Obviously no friggin' adtech or AI-for-evil; preferably doing something good in the world and not just building platforms and tools for other companies.
Co-ops or part time or temporary would also be great.

From Django 5.0 you’ll be able to register async signal receivers, that will be dispatched concurrently even…
https://github.com/django/django/commit/e83a88566a71a2353cebc35992c110be0f8628af
Given that you never use signals, that may not be so handy, but it does give you totally async request-response pathway to play with, if that’s your bag.
Onward, ever onward. #Django

So, this year's PyCon is in Utah, and this year's DjangoCon US is in North Carolina.
For ever-increasing numbers of people, Republican-run US states are simply not safe to set foot in. Yet these conferences offer important career and networking opportunities that upcoming #Python and #Django users can't get anywhere else, which means probably some people are going to feel they have to take the risk.
I don't know what the solution is for the PSF, DSF, and DEFNA, given that contracts for venues are often signed well in advance, but I know what the solution is for me, and it's not to attend or support conferences in these locations.
(and yes, I know NC is trying, but Republicans still control both houses of the state legislature with large majorities, and that's just too big a risk)
It's been a while since I've done a #ConnectionList #Introduction #FollowFriday post, where I use my large follower count to more richly connect us, so here's some folx you might like to follow on the #Fediverse :fediverse:
