The result was a treasure trove of evidence for Dominion: text messages and emails that revealed the doubts that Rupert Murdoch had about the coverage airing on his network, and assertions by many inside Fox, including Mr. Carlson, that fraud could not have made a material difference in the election.
The messages led to even more damaging revelations during depositions. After Dominion’s lawyers confronted Mr. Murdoch with his own messages showing he knew Mr. Trump’s stolen election claims were false, he admitted that some Fox hosts appeared to have endorsed stolen election claims."

If you were disappointed by the #Dominion lawsuit, I hope the secondary effect of Tucker Carlson getting fired is a salve for those wounds. To me, it is nothing less than a tonic, a delicious citrus-tinged beverage I could happily drink for the rest of my life.

Or (eyes roll up to heaven smiling) perhaps there's something about the hit the fan with this slimey asshat and Fox is getting out ahead of it.
Of course we have to talk about Tucker Carlson "leaving" his show on FOX.
It will be interesting to see who else "leaves." It's notable that nobody has used the word "fired." Because of course they haven't. "Fired" would mean at some level, FOX was acknowledging that he did something to deserve firing. And as Rupert and Co stare down a list of lawsuits longer than Stormy Daniels' dance card at the Never That Guy Ball, they'd prefer not to have anything suggesting they knew he did a bad thing.
So, he's "leaving."
Of course, they'll try to have it both ways, too. As time marches on, it will become more and more possible to prove damages as opposed to allege them, and the actual numbers may not be as high as the settlements sought. They'll say, "Company A was worth $50M before the suit, and they're asking for $100M, and their revenue dropped by $5M during the time they're alleging $100M in damages. And also, Tucker isn't even here anymore, so they can't claim ongoing damages!"
Also, Tucker was the most obviously Goebbels-like of the popular hosts. He frequently said the quiet parts aloud, and that's arguably off brand for FOX, whose bread has historically been buttered by never saying the thing everybody knew they meant. They'll go back to that style with emphasis so they will be able to demonstrate "reformed ways" that nevertheless don't point to anybody doing anything that needed reforming.
Another story this morning quietly snuck under the radar while everybody was talking about Tucker. Insurance will pay most of the damages for FOX, and the settlement itself will be deductible as a tax write off. Yet another reason why civil suits will simply not solve the problem of weaponized news. FOX -- not even Rupert, just FOX -- has around $4B liquid. They'll take a hit this quarter for under half a billion in real money. Next quarter, whatever they make is what they'll have. (Yes, I know. Long term, they'll be a higher insurance risk, and that will cut into profits. Ask yourself how big a cut that will be.)

Let's hope they stick to this --- especially in light of the news that Fox gets to take a deduction for their settlement with Dominion and laugh all the way to the bank.
At least they are asking for the retraction and apology so even if they do settle they might get that unlike #Dominion who didn't ask.

I only just learned this week that Dominion Voting Systems is a Canadian company
$787.5M USD = $1.065B CAD
They have more lawsuits tabled as well, this is a real booster for the Canadian economy
I expect the settlement will have a cooling effect on #Murdoch and his tribe of blowhards. While #Fox can certainly this settlement, a big fat precedent has been set and all #news organizations are likely calculating their increased legal exposure. Those devoted to bloviated opinion and popularizing falsehoods rather than the hard business of actual reporting will likely have to reconsider their practices.
#Dominion v. #FoxNews has always just been a civil case, & was nvr going 2 b a criminal case. But when u get caught trying 2 obstruct the courts in a civil case, now u’ve committed a potential criminal act. It’s not purview o Dominion 2 follow up on this. Nor is it the purview o the judge n the civil case. It’s up 2 criminal prosecutrs to decide 2 investigate this as criminal mattr – & now we know that criminal prosecutrs r at least in the prlimnary stage o doing precisely that

I'm angry at myself for believing the company's claims that it was about more than money. The private equity company that owns #Dominion did this to make money. Here's how it's being reported:

As consumers of public news, and people invested in the public good, we should not just move along now that Fox News has settled their lawsuit for $787.5 million, then nothing has really changed. We must demand more and we deserve better. Fox News is already lying about their lies.

Fox News had zero chance of winning this lawsuit. By Fox settling, they admitted they lied. No mention of the settlement or the lawsuit on their website. Shocker. I do seriously question what actually will change and where accountability will be held. For now, however, I'll take this win over the right-wing propaganda machine.
