The Burnt Orange Heresy feels like it wants to do for painting what The Ninth Gate did for books. The problem is that there were books in Polanski’s film, and not just mere props, but objets d’art in their own right. In contrast, there’s precious little painting in this movie; in fact, there’s literally less than meets the eye.

To change things up yesterday I watched the first episode of The Idol on Amazon Prime Video. I was curious to see Lily Rose Depp's performance. Though labeled as romantic drama, it's like watching 50 Shades of Grey (not a compliment). Maybe I've been too much into k-drama recently, but I really despise how this kind of Western productions are all written and conceived by men. There's something really upsetting about that.

It's been very hard to finish this #drama. I found it too slow and boring. Made by 75% of talks, occasionally deep but more and more trivial as the show goes by, super long stares that makes me yawn every time and a plot line without much twists.
I enjoyed slightly more the second romance, though even in that case things a little more exciting could have been added.

Here's one *nobody* ever saw, because Hammer Films didn't know what to do with it. They thought they were getting a quickie horror film about mutant kids and biker gangs. Instead they ended up with this haunting, downbeat look at abuse of power and lost innocence. A real shame it's not better known.

Bloody, scathing, deliriously over-the-top satire of late 80s capitalism. (And also unexpectedly touching.) If this doesn't quite make my Top 10, it's definitely in my Top 20. I love this film.

We went for a walk in the rain. It came on stronger and we were full face into it. On the way back the squall helped us along. We were out on it for 50 minutes. Invigorating and bracing. As we got back to the car a blue sky parted the clouds. It wasn’t the last of the rain for the day. Springtime on Skye. And yes, there was a rainbow.
