'Dune' Sets Release Date on New Streaming Home
"Denis Villeneuve's Dune, which stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, is headed to a new streaming home this fall."
Ah yes, we're getting closer and closer to shigawire.
I feel like Duke Leto should have brought like a whole tanker ship full of fresh water to bargain with the Fremen
I missed this detail on first viewing, but look at this spacing guild heighliner over Arrakis. Look through it to see the bottom of Caladan. As if the heighliner is more conduit for other ships than starship itself. Folding space to be two places at once. Great detail. #Dune
Another installment of Alathea's story.
I'd been relistening to the #Dune series on Audible and finished #GodEmperorofDune last night. I was about 30 minutes into #HereticsofDune and realized that I just can't follow or care about the story past God Emperor. No slight on #FrankHerbert, but I have my limits.
Just watched the sixth episode of #ahsoka I'm still fascinated by Baylan and Shin. They're turning out to be the most interesting characters in this series, and I can't wait to see how they will fare in the upcoming endgame portion.
But I wasn't too impressed by the appearance of the Night Sisters. I liked them much better when they were known as the Bene Gesserit from #DUNE 🙄
Ethereal & unexpected beauty. White Sands in New Mexico is beautiful on any day, but this was unexpected. We arrived to find the dunes shrouded in smoke from California wildfires. Like usual I sat down and tried anyways to capture the sunset. Published in Landscape Magazine.
A Masterpiece In Disarray: David Lynch's Dune – An Oral History (1984 Publishing/Sept. 19)
"Film writer Max Evry goes behind the erratic ride of David Lynch’s Dune like never before, with a years-in-the-making oral history culled from a lineup of new interviews with the film’s stars (Kyle MacLachlan, Sean Young, Virginia Madsen, etc.), creatives, film executives, and insiders – not to mention Lynch himself."

The Reverend Mother gazed unblinking into Paul's eyes, and held the poisoned needle to his neck. Paul fought for self-control as his hand seemed to burn inside the neural induction box. The pain grew inexorably worse.
Waiting outside the closed door, Jessica heard a high-pitched shriek, followed by the muffled thud of a body falling to the floor.
Jessica sighed and rolled her eyes. "What a little bitch", she whispered to herself.
finished #TheExpanse yesterday! all six seasons in about 10 days.
i really enjoyed it, and i think it’s going to leave a lasting impression on my #SciFi preferences in the future. if/when i finish reading #ChildrenOfDune, maybe i’ll take a break from the #Dune franchise and try out the expanse books.
oh, and i think the #rocinante is high on my list of favorite spaceships now.
After listening to the Dune audio-book on Audible, I re-watched the recent Dune Part 1 again.
I have new found appreciation for the movie, it is the best adaptation that comes close, and probably will be in future.
Cant wait for part 2.
In the meantime I have 5 more audio-book to listen too...
If you picked an interest in #Dune thanks to the new movie, know that you might also run into the many, many books written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
They're not particularly good.
However, if you go past Dune and want to read the rest of the books written by Frank Herbert, be aware that they're not exactly great either.
There's valid reasons why most derivative works are based on his first book and not the rest. 28/
Today's challenge: making a collapsible, airport-safe, entirely non-functional version of the Fremen thumper so Torrey (as featured in the video) can take the costume places. I'm thinking two sections of plastic pipe, with a coupler hidden behind the flame shroud, and some 3D printed bits glued on.

From 25 Aug: Hey, AMPTP, There’s a Simple Solution to Your ‘Dune Part Two’ Problem - Last night, some terrible news hit the internet: Dune Part Two has been delayed because of the ongo... https://www.themarysue.com/hey-amptp-theres-a-simple-solution-to-your-dune-part-two-problem/ #dune-part-two #movies #sag-aftra-strike-2023 #wga-strike-2023
Disappointed by the delay, but happy with the effect the writers strike is having. ✊
Cryo's Dune displays its text in variable-width fonts with justified text layout. It has two fonts for latin scripts and two for Fremen.
When you choose the Fremen language, Dune just uses the French localization with this custom font 🙂
The fonts are in the resources DNCHAR and DNCHAR2. Each store a table of 256 glyph widths, followed by 128 8x9 glyphs and 128 8x7 glyphs.
(Font extraction has been added to dune-extract)
New Screen Rant article on the latest new Futurama episode being a direct sequel to an episode from 22 years ago (and also a Dune parody).
I haven't written much about them on my own cartoon blog, but the new Futurama episodes are great and I love em, of course. Super funny spots. A lot of that old feel. It weirds me out that friggin DISNEY was technically what brought it back and that Disney owns Simpsons now, too. Sigh.
I guess I can't complain. 🤣
(The books never really question hereditary autocracy iirc. Would be happy to stand corrected on this though :)
A rare find. A Macintosh SE outfitted with a hardware user authentication system created by mystical Bene Gesserit engineers that requires the prospective user to successfully pass the Gom Jabbar Test of Humanity.
(Of those who successfully pass the test, only the Kwisatz Haderach will be granted root / admin level access to the system.)
I made a quick utility in Rust to extract resources and sprites from Dune's DUNE.DAT: https://github.com/madmoose/dune-extract
The sprites are exported to png with alpha transparency.
I got tired of hacking my engine every time I wanted to inspect something more closely…
Not all the sprite sheets have a palette so some of them will export in grayscale. Also, there's no way to tell if a resource is a sprite sheet. I'll probably include a list.
It took a while but I finally found where Dune draws the talking heads. This is 9 sprites put together.
The game builds a list of the sprites (still working on how), and if I copy the list from my emulator, “Duke Leto, your father” show's up.
I spent a long time on how the game reads the lip sync data that's in the .voc-files, but Dune completely ignores that when audio is not enabled – and my emulator doesn't have audio yet…
"The planet is Arrakis, also known as… Dune."
I reverse engineered the globe rendering code a good while ago, and finally decided to integrate it into the engine.
There's a couple of lookup tables, some pre-calculation, and a bit of 16.16 fixed point math. Luckily reverse engineering it doesn't mean you have to understand how it works!
This video also highlights the need for a rescaler from the non-square pixels of 320x200.
I like to create things, whether it be a program, music, stories or #worldbuilding that won't get finished ever.
The palace rooms from the intro now render pixel-perfectly, aside from the main characters.
The ready room uses only sprites, but Lady Jessica's and Duke Leto's rooms use polygons and line drawing. The gradient-filled polygons incorporate a random number generator to provide some dithering, and the line drawing code supports stippling.
The attached video shows the rooms being drawn piece by piece.
Seen one of these posted without credit, so sharing some more here because they are amazing and I'd buy every single one of them if they existed.

I am watching #Dune. I have never read the book nor really no much of the plot. Wondering whether I'll be able to follow the plot. Is spice a metaphor or literally spice or just a name for some mineral
i like #SciFi and will boost #SciFiArt and #astrophotography. Getting back into #ScienceFiction #literature, most recently working through #dune. #StarWars is my childhood, and i have a healthy appreciation for #StarTrek as well.
