If true, it affects EU (and the world) profoundly, cynically seeking profit by hijacking and sabotaging what SHOULD be a climate protection body. The attempt to coopt a process whose job is to stop wide-scale ecological disaster should itself be seen as ecological disaster.

Don't let there become the ecological equivalent of white collar crimes, tolerated because they seem or are portrayed as too abstract. This is where the real damage us done.

There is something especially perverse, cynical, ugly and dangerously fraud-like about not just doing such lobbying but in the guise of a RESPONSE to climate threats.

This is a good test case because it's not like an isolated event that happens afar, such as an oil spill. Its EFFECT extends to and solidly occurs WITHIN the EU. Each and every policy change affecting a member nation should implicate anyone implementing that change in EU because such changes occur within the EU and all that happens outside is the lobbying for and agreement.

Put them on notice NOW, before the meeting, that such policy changes as flow from this neeting will be charged so no one can be surprised by this interpretation after..

Seek relevant email and physical documents about meeting planning and agendas that that flowed to/from the EU prior, and later followup documents that implement any lobbied-for sale or policy change.

Charge all involved, those lobbying and those implementing, even though they aren't physically in the EU. Arrest them later upon entry for any followup purpose.

Even if it fails, it highlights the need for more, broader & stronger laws.

Every counter-argument made, every loophole cited, and every appeal filed should have its basis scrutinized and its key elements meticulously catalogued so they can be flowed directly into new & more solid law impervious to such, because actions like these IMPLEMENT deadly regulatory capture. They MUST be seen as capital crimes against humanity.

If capital owners evade measures that promote the general welfare (e.g. tax evasion, tax avoidance), they exclude themselves from a convivialistic economy for the common good. For their own sake, they should be required to fulfill their obligations to the general welfare of the state, e.g. by confiscation of their assets, customs duties, compensation payments, entry ban, etc. Until then, traffic and business with them could be outlawed.

NIGERIA, OIL AND THE OGONI PEOPLE

Petroleum and derivatives dominate Nigeria's economy forming 98% of exports. Ango-Dutch Shell produces 50% of Nigeria's oil which accounts for almost 14% of the company's global production.

One of 250 distinct ethnic groups, the Ogoni people of 515.000 (1991 census) live in an area of 404 square miles in Rivers State in the south east of Nigeria, the oil-rich Niger Delta.

Between 1976 and 1991 official figures quote 2976 oil spills on the Delta as a whole. Combined with atmospheric hydrocarbon pollution, the damage to their staple agriculture and fishing has meant that the Delta people face a stark choice: starvation or resistance.

In January 1993, 300.000 people led by Ken Saro-Wiwa participated in peaceful marches throughout Ogoniland protesting at 30 years of pollution caused by Shell and its joint venture.

Shortly afterwards, the Nigerian military occupied the territory. For more than two years - under the dictatorial military rule of General Sani Abacha - the protest campaign went on.

In 1994 Abachas military government accused Ken Saro-Wiwa and his compatriots of playing a role in the murder of four progovernment Ogoni chiefs. They (were) tried under a special military tribunal.

On November 10, 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Nordu Eawo, Paul Leevera, Daniel Bbooko, Darinem Kiobel, Saturday Dobee, Baribor Bera, Felix Nuate and John Kpiune were hanged.

The slowest time was recorded when Eni took 450 days to respond to a spill in Bayelsa State. For more than a year, oil leaked out of the pipeline into neraby swampland and rivers, contaminating the water people drink and wash with.

I think #BodilyAutonomy needs to be a key organizing principle for the #left. It ties together so many issues that seem unrelated: #AbortionRights, #ZeroCovid, #WorkersRights, and #EnvironmentalJustice.

My body should be mine to control, whether that's refusing an unwanted pregnancy, #covid19 infection, working conditions that harm my mental and physical health, or a planet polluted with toxins becoming unliveable due to extreme heat.

There are more issues beyond these that don't impact me directly because of my cis and white privilege, such as #TransRights and #RacialJustice, but I recognize that my fight for bodily autonomy is bound up with these fights. Through the lens of bodily autonomy, there's a lot of opportunities for building #solidarity. Everyone should have bodily autonomy as a #HumanRight.
