The significant difference between rich and poor students (apart from motivation) has always been access to a personal tutor. This person can explain the complex part of the topic from different angles. And it’s one of the truly strong characteristics of LLMs

Our school begins a 2-week break at 3:00 today, so I just left a video comment in Google Classroom for each student using #ScreenPal . It makes video comments in Classroom super-fast. My class periods are short, and this allows me to give customized feedback and do quick progress checks on projects. My 6th graders likely won't check in over break (nor would I want them to), so the comments will help them pick up where they left off without a lot of backtracking. #middleschool #edtech #edutooter

I'm reading this #EdTech book for a course and it's... something alright. Feels like it's halfway to being a "For dummies" book with how little it goes into any real detail on any actual uses for technology in #Education or how to advance education through technology beyond an extremely basic level. More page space is dedicated to repeating how Zoom can be used for distance learning than talking about how to actually use it for distance learning.

One of the benefits of students learning to use computers in school as a tool instead of a reward or exception is that it prepares them for the workforce where digital skills are increasingly important.
When students view computer use as a normal part of their learning experience, it removes the stigma around using technology and helps to close the digital divide.
With GPT-4, new #EdTech is around the corner or even being rolled-out. I already saw the term “Learning 6.0”…
Which is a nice occasion to read again “Education as loosely coupled system of technology and pedagogy” Andy Hediger and I wrote in 2021 (which feels like 2 decades ago) for _on-education:
There is no sense in assigning version numbers to education!
You *have* to consider #pedagogy, else your shiny new edtech will fail gloriously and become the next #OLPC
Three signs it was a good class:
1. Kids don't want to leave when the timer goes off (I set a timer on my phone with a 2 min buffer).
2. Kids ask if they can keep working on their projects in quiet study (I don't assign homework).
3. Kids call you over during class - not to ask for help but to show you what they've discovered or created.
Bonus:
You overhear three kids (one boy, two girls) saying they love computer science as they're leaving the room.
